About the job
What You'll Do:
As our Embedded Systems Engineer, you’ll play a critical role in developing the technology that makes Lil Smiley tick (and talk). You'll work on everything from SoC and PCB design to Linux optimization. Here’s a glimpse of your role:
- SoC Development & Integration: Design, develop, and optimize System on Chip (SoC) solutions to power Lil Smiley's AI functionalities. Configure the SoC architecture to ensure it handles real-time voice recognition, AI processing, and connectivity smoothly.
- PCB Design & Prototyping: Design PCBs that support the SoC and other hardware components within Lil Smiley. You'll create layouts, oversee the fabrication process, and test prototypes to ensure they meet our performance and quality standards.
- Embedded Linux Development: Work on Linux kernel configurations, drivers, and user-space applications for optimal performance on embedded hardware. Optimize power usage, memory management, and system performance for smooth and responsive AI interactions.
- Hardware & Software Integration: Collaborate with software engineers to integrate AI, voice processing, and user interfaces seamlessly into the hardware platform. Ensure all components work harmoniously to deliver Lil Smiley's humor without a hitch.
- Troubleshoot & Debug: Identify, troubleshoot, and fix hardware and software issues as they arise. You’ll be the go-to person to keep Lil Smiley’s tech running smoothly, ensuring the plushie’s interactions are as seamless as its stitching.
- Performance Optimization: Continuously improve system performance to ensure low latency, efficient power usage, and high-quality audio output. You'll make sure that Lil Smiley is always at the top of its game, both in humor and hardware.
- Documentation & Collaboration: Document designs, workflows, and processes clearly. Work closely with the Product, Manufacturing, and Content teams to ensure that every tech element supports the Lil Smiley experience.
What We're Looking For:
- Technical Expertise: Strong experience with embedded systems design, particularly with SoC architecture, Linux-based embedded systems, and PCB design.
- Hands-On Skills: Proficiency with hardware development tools (e.g., Altium, KiCad), Linux kernel configuration, and programming languages such as C, C++, or Python for embedded development.
- Problem-Solving Abilities: Ability to troubleshoot and debug complex hardware-software interactions and optimize systems for performance.
- Knowledge of Audio & AI Processing: Familiarity with real-time processing, audio playback, and integrating AI functionalities on embedded hardware is a major plus.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous in designing, testing, and documenting system components to ensure high-quality, reliable hardware and software performance.
- Team Player & Communicator: Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, from software engineers to product managers.
- Adaptability & Curiosity: Eager to learn new technologies and willing to take on challenges in a fast-paced startup environment.
- Passion for Tech and Humor: Excitement about working on a playful, innovative product that blends humor, AI, and tech seamlessly.
What We Offer:
- Equity Compensation: As a startup, we're offering equity in the company. This is your chance to own a piece of the pie (or plushie) and grow with us.
- Flexible Work Environment: Whether you prefer working in a lab, at home, or at a local makerspace, we support what works best for you.
- Innovative & Impactful Role: Your work will directly contribute to the tech behind Lil Smiley, making sure our plushie brings joy to the world one joke at a time.
- A Fun Team: Join a group of passionate individuals who take humor seriously (but not ourselves).
- Endless Laughter: Daily doses of giggles, chuckles, and the occasional belly laugh.
How to Apply:
