Fractional Senior UI UX Designer

Gabb is an immersive VR language learning platform for English language learners in California. We helps them speak the English language with confidence, and fluency. This role reports to a Product Manager, and COO as a member of the Design team, the instrumental creative partner in most projects at Gabb—from our mobile apps and website to the brand voice and email newsletters, and even community events. At Gabb, we take pride in and agonize over crafting a user-friendly (and fun) experience for everyone.

You will
Work on a team of 20
Be given some equity for your contribution
Help us conduct research on design in VR and add UI to the game
Help us design UI inside our VR environment
Work with our NLP development team to design unique ways to describe how users our doing and learning.
Work on the user experience across New Subjects within the Duolingo app
Play a leadership role on the New Subjects design team
Work collaboratively with designers and artists to build upon and expand the Duolingo design language
Partner with engineers and product managers to define both the long-term strategy and the short-term tactics for our products
Sometimes work on very broadly defined, loose concepts, and sometimes on narrowly defined, tactical features
Work in a highly energetic fashion with the design and product teams
Consider all parts when crafting the experience: from copy to animation to business impact

An online portfolio with mobile app or web design samples
Design experience in a consumer application, product, or software role
A desire to strive for excellence in your work until all details are attended to
The ability to explain your work, process, and decisions and seek feedback to help you produce your best work

Exceptional candidates will have...

Have worked at a high-paced tech start-up
Illustration and/or animation skill-set
Experience participating in or leading user research sessions

Compensation:

This depends on experience but we can pay per project or per hour with a cap at 25 hours per week at 35 USD per hour. The person in this role will make our products look beautiful across all fronts.
