Lead Software Engineer for Insurtech Startup

Sembley is a cutting-edge, cloud-based platform designed to revolutionize the insurance submissions and renewals process for commercial property and casualty (P&C) insurance brokers and agencies. We streamline the collection of information through modern, client-ready intakes that populate complete applications, enhancing productivity and transforming how insurance agencies manage their workflows.

As our Lead Software Engineer, you will lead the technological vision and strategy of Sembley, ensuring that our platform stays at the forefront of innovation in the insurance tech space.

Responsibilities:

• Technical Leadership: Set the technical direction and strategy for Sembley’s development, guiding the team to create scalable, high-performing, and reliable software solutions.
• Team Management: Build and mentor a top-notch engineering team, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and innovation.
• Architecture & Development: Oversee the architecture and design of our platform, ensuring robust and scalable infrastructure to support growth.
• Product Collaboration: Work closely with product and business teams to align technology with Sembley’s goals and drive the product roadmap.
• Innovation: Stay ahead of industry trends, identifying opportunities to leverage emerging technologies that enhance Sembley’s competitive edge.
• Security & Compliance: Ensure the highest standards of data security and compliance, particularly in relation to sensitive client information and insurance regulations.
• Hands-On Coding: Lead by example with hands-on development when necessary, providing guidance and expertise to solve complex technical challenges.

Requirements:

• Experience: 7+ years in software engineering, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role (CTO, VP of Engineering, or similar).
• Technical Stack Knowledge: Proficiency with our stack (Rails 7, Vue3, Vite, Vuetify, Pinia, and PostgreSQL) and experience with cloud-based hosting solutions (Heroku, Netlify).
• Leadership Skills: Proven track record of building and leading high-performing engineering teams in a remote environment.
• Product Focus: Strong understanding of how to build products that solve real-world customer problems, particularly in the B2B SaaS space.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Agile Methodologies: Experience with agile development processes and managing the full software development lifecycle.
• Remote Experience: Comfortable leading and working with distributed teams across various time zones.
