About the job
⚠️ Important Info - Please Read First
We anticipate it may take 6 months or more to find the ideal candidate for this role, as we’re seeking someone with a very specific set of skills and experience. At the start of the application process, you’ll be asked a few targeted screening questions to ensure alignment. If your application doesn’t meet the role’s requirements, we will notify you promptly rather than keep you waiting for months.
This role is Los Angeles based with some in-office days. You must be eligible to work in the USA already and either in Los Angeles or willing to move.
The Job
We’re looking for a Head of Product and Design to lead the strategy and execution for all of The ROSTR Group’s products. This is a pivotal leadership role where you will be responsible for shaping the product roadmap, overseeing design initiatives, and working with cross-functional teams to build and optimize our products.
This position reports directly to the CEO and will be part of the group’s leadership team.
Key Responsibilities
This is a cross-functional role overseeing the full product lifecycle across all of The ROSTR Group’s current and future products. You will be responsible for building a multi-product team while taking on a hands-on role in the product development and design process initially.
- Some of the core responsibilities include:
- Shaping, prioritizing and executing the product roadmap for all The ROSTR Group products.
- Building and leading a product and design team over the next few years
- Implementing a data-driven product development approach, leveraging insights and user feedback to optimize and iterate on product features.
- Managing the transition from a founder-led to a product-led organization, owning product evolution across legacy systems, tech debt, and new development.
- Designing and executing an end-to-end experience across all of our products
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including marketing, sales, and support, to ensure product-market fit and alignment with business objectives.
- Owning customer insights and using analytics to ensure product decisions are driven by data and user needs.
- Driving innovation across the product suite and introducing new product lines aligned with ROSTR’s growth strategy.
Seems like a lot huh? It is. See below.
Who You Are
The ROSTR Group was forged during the pandemic. We’re a lean team that punches well above our weight every day. Everyone here takes on a lot of responsibility and wears more than one hat.
As we enter our next phase of growth, we’re looking for experienced people who are also incredibly hands-on. Yes, this role involves management, but it’s NOT a management role.
To be a fit for this role, you should be:
- A “startup person,” not a corporate type. You thrive in fast-moving, dynamic environments.
- Very, very hands-on. We're not looking for an air traffic controller here. There isn’t a big team to coordinate yet - you should be someone who’s excited to create rough designs and prototype in Figma (or even code). You should absolutely know some no-code tools too. You’ve got the skills to get your ideas out of your head and into action.
- Someone who understands tech and the engineers who build it. You should be able to read SDK docs. You should probably be able to write a little code. We don't "hand off" a Google Doc and call it done. Product works side-by-side with Engineering, and you should be able to hold your own in those conversations.
- Incredibly data-driven. You know how to dig into analytics tools and leverage data to make decisions. You also know these systems might not be in place yet, and you’re ready to help build them.
- Willing to move fast and take risks. Yes, we’re data-driven, but we lean toward action and iteration. You don’t have months for research—any decision is better than no decision. Perfect is the enemy of progress.
- Self-motivated and confident. You’re stepping into a role the CEO has been running, so you need to be ready to own it from day one.
- Adaptable. Things move quickly here, and priorities can shift just as fast. You need to thrive in that kind of environment.
- Collaborative. You’ll work independently a lot, but you’ll also need to bring other teams together to make things happen.
- Comfortable with technical tools. You know your way around a bunch of tools probably even the one who introduces them to others. Tools like Linear, Figma, Mixpanel, Posthog, GA, GTM, Claude, Raycast etc. Also no-code tools like Airtable, Bubble and Framer.
- Excited about what we’re building. You should look at what we’ve done so far and see a world of opportunities for growth and innovation.
- Someone who sees the list of responsibilities above and thinks "cool challenge".
- Someone with taste. You gotta have taste.
⚠️ Note from the current head of product (the CEO) - this role isn't for someone who's been running a big product org and hasn't got their hands dirty in years.
Requirements
⚠️ As mentioned above, we're going to be very strict and specific about this and will screen during the process. This is to ensure we’re not wasting your time unless you're a genuine potential fit.
Must-haves:
- 7+ years of experience leading product and design in a tech, SaaS, or data-driven environment.
- Proven success in scaling and optimizing products, with verifiable results and metrics.
- Experience managing cross-functional teams and mentoring product and design professionals.
- A strong understanding of UI/UX design principles and a track record of delivering exceptional user experiences.
- Technical proficiency with data and analytics tools, product management platforms, design software (Figma, etc.), and no-code tools.
- Eligibility to work in the USA (we cannot assist with this).
- Los Angeles based or willing to move to Los Angeles.
Nice-to-haves:
- Experience in the music-tech space.
- Understanding of the music industry and its unique challenges.
- Hands on code or design experience (in addition to product).
Details & Benefits
- This is a full-time role.
- 4.5 days per week (Friday afternoon off)
- Employment will be "at-will."
- Eligible for ROSTR’s health, vision, and dental plan.
- Enrollment in ROSTR’s 401(k).
- 21 days paid time off.
- 6 paid vacation days, plus a week off from Christmas to New Year’s Day.
The Process
Please make sure you have read through this entire job description, specifically the warning at the top about the process.
Also please double check the "must haves" section.

We'll ask you to answer a few screening questions. If at the end of the screening we don't think you'll be a fit we won't ask you to apply. This is to save you time.
We'll review applications on an ongoing basis. If we don't think you'll be a fit (and most will not be) we'll send you a note asap letting you know.
If we think you may be a fit we'll be in touch with more info on the process. Again, please be prepared for a lengthy process here as we try to find the right candidate for this role. To reiterate, we don't expect to make a decision on this role until circa Spring 2025.
How do you catch our eye? In the application form there's a section to tell us why you're a fit. This is key. Write something concise that quickly conveys why you're a fit for this role. Your answer should essentially synthesize your resume for us.
