Senior Backend engineer
DealPlus is building software for the Private Market Funds (private equity, real estate, infrastructure, and Sovereign Wealth Funds) which will transform the way private market deals are executed and managed. Our ambition is to build the default standard to execute and manage private market deals.
We are a remote team located across UK and India.

- You will work on building end to end backend services towards meeting our product roadmap in collaboration with engineering and product teams
- Be the primary driver in improving overall backend and infra architecture of the product
- Owning everything tech on entire backend team
- Ensuring security (as we work with critical financial data transactions of millions of dollars) of the platform
- Mentor other backend devs
- Improve our backend development process. for eg, improving code review process, deployment process..
- Ensure that we maintain a culture of collaboration, growth mindset and high performance
What will make you succeed in this role ?
We are looking for a talented engineer with the following :
- Effective communication:
- The ability to communicate well verbally, non-verbally (docs, email ..) with the team.
- 5+ yrs experience as software engineer (only backend/ full stack) :
- Having experience in Java and Spring framework is a plus but not mandatory
- Having experience with RDMBS like Mysql, Postgres is a plus but not mandatory
- Ability to translate ambiguous business problems to technical designs
Ability to debug and improve legacy architectures

What is the hiring process:
- Initial call (15-30mins) :
- This will be an informal call to know about the role and the company and about you as well.
- Pair Programming round (1 - 1.5 hr):
- Objective:
- Assess technical skills and collaboration
- We will give a problem before this round and then work on completing it along with one of our engineers together. you will need to work on part of the problem before the interview and then working on extending the solution with our engineer, this should help you and us gauge how we work together on a problem
- System design round (1 hr):
- We need each engineer to have a say in building our architecture. we are having this round to gauge whether you can participate in such discussions and provide meaningful inputs
- Culture fit round (1 hr):
- This round is for us to assess your motivations, know your career plan, understand our team culture. There is no preparation needed for this round and there are no right or wrong answers, its meant towards knowing you more holistically and ensuring that we are a compatible match
Interview FAQs :
- Since the interviews will be virtual, we want you to turn on the video.
- For each interview, we will send a teams invite up ahead. please accept the invite before the interview, if you don’t accept the interview we will assume that you are not available at that time and not keep the interview slot/ reschedule the slot
- Think of all these interviews as more of a discussion than an interview. we are looking to assess how well you can collaborate with us and how you can contribute to the team more than “getting to a solution”. its completely normal to be nervous but it might calm your nerves if you think of these interviews as a discussion with your colleagues
- If you get rejected after the 3rd round we will give you detailed feedback for your rejection. we don’t give feedback for the first couple of rounds as we have too many candidates for this round, if you don’t hear us from before 24hrs of the first round you can consider yourself rejected
