About the Role

As our Data Engineer, you will play a crucial role in architecting and implementing scalable data pipelines and storage solutions that form the backbone of our analytics and machine learning systems. You will creatively identify and integrate new data sources, design efficient ETL processes, and build resilient data infrastructure to support our trend prediction and demand forecasting models. Working alongside brilliant members of our world-class team, you'll construct the data foundations that enable our cutting-edge machine learning technologies. Your expertise in building high-performance data systems will be instrumental in processing and managing diverse datasets, ensuring our data is clean, accessible, and primed for analysis.

About You

You're eager to apply your data engineering expertise to build the robust infrastructure needed to analyze real-time trends in culture and fashion, and to help eliminate the inefficiencies in fashion design and distribution that make fashion the second largest polluter in the world. You thrive on the challenges of wrangling diverse and messy data sources, particularly social data, and are passionate about transforming this raw information into clean, structured, and actionable insights. Your approach is always forward-thinking, focused on architecting data pipelines and storage solutions that can evolve with the company's needs, facilitate easy benchmarking of progress, and prevent data quality regressions. You take pride in building maintainable systems with clear documentation, enabling seamless collaboration across teams. Your expertise in data modeling, ETL processes, and database optimization will be crucial in creating a data ecosystem that powers our analytics and machine learning initiatives.

Recommended Background

• With significant experience in data engineering, with expertise in building and optimizing data pipelines
• Expertise in SQL and experience with both relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra)
• Proficiency in Python, with experience in data processing libraries (e.g. PySpark) and big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, and Hive
• Extensive experience with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS) for data processing
• Proven ability to design and implement ETL processes, data warehousing solutions, and real-time data processing systems
• Experience with data streaming platforms (e.g., Kafka, AWS Kinesis) and workflow management tools (e.g., Airflow, Luigi)
• Knowledge of data modeling, architecture, and familiarity with CI/CD practices for data pipelines and version control systems
