About Rec
We’re building America’s modern day sports and recreation platform. We probably don’t have to tell you how archaic the experience is because you’ve probably tried it yourself. Resorted to Yelp to find a golf instructor? Attempted to decrypt your local Parks & Rec department’s website? Awkwardly walked onto a public tennis court hoping that you are “allowed” to be there? Yep, that’s the consumer experience stuck in the Windows ‘95 era that we’re modernizing. 82% of Americans participate in recreation every year and the macro consumer trends of people craving IRL community and being conscious of their health is only growing the $105B US market at a faster clip. Explore our product at www.rec.us.
We’re a team of passionate recreationalists — skiers, surfers, bocce-ballers, tennis players and (of course), pickleballers. We’re looking for early-stage startup obsessed folks that crave building with a talented team working in a massive consumer white space. You’ll be in good company with leaders from Uber Eats, MasterClass and The Athletic and backed by an amazing set of investors including NFX, Long Journey and Precursor Ventures. Join us in re-imagining recreation and play in every city and neighborhood in America.
About This Role
We are looking for a Business Development Representative to join our team. This role is a unique opportunity to be a part of the founding Rec team and help define the sales strategy and culture of the organization. You will work closely with the co-founders of the company as well as best-in-class operations, product and engineering leaders. We’re looking for someone with an entrepreneurial mindset, ambition to grow a new market and a passion for sports and recreation.
Who You Are:
- 2-4 years of experience in Outbound Sales or Business Development in a SaaS B2B company
- GovTech experience or experience selling to government agencies is highly preferred
- Early-stage startup sales experience is a huge bonus, but a strong willingness to embrace the challenges of a developing sales environment is equally valued.
- Proven track record of exceeding sales quotas with B2B customers
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and oral.
- An entrepreneurial spirit and a high degree of drive, energy, and passion for sales
- Ability to effectively overcome objections to build relationships and uncover new opportunities.
- Ability to work effectively and adapt within a fast-paced, changing environment that is going through high growth.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team environment
What You’ll Do:
- Conduct outbound calls and emails to prospective Parks & Rec leaders in municipalities across the US to generate leads and drive sales
- Iterate on our outbound strategy and carry out follow-ups to qualified prospects and set up demos
- Participate in, and eventually lead demo calls
- This role presents significant growth opportunity within the sales organization
You Should Also…
- Be comfortable with ambiguity: We’re a small and scrappy team that is building the plane while we fly it. If you are looking for a well-oiled, stable machine to plug into…this isn’t it! Be excited to get your hands (very) dirty: We want every team member to get to work outside of their lane as well as deliver within it. Because our product includes IRL experiences, we will often be out playing pickleball with community members or attending events with Parks & Rec leaders across the US.
- Be an owner: While we all care deeply about work/life balance (as an avid group of skiers and snowboarders, we know the importance of a powder day), we are also at an early stage where high commitment and dedication to the team can make or break out business. We want to hire a team of owners that will be passionate about building the company to its greatest potential.
Pay & Benefits
At Rec, we strive to provide total rewards that are competitive, equitable, clear, and that tie to the impact that each of our employees has on the organization. Our goal is to have a compensation program that is externally competitive and maps to distinct levels in the outside market while also being equitable internally. The final compensation package is based on an individual’s experience and qualifications for a role. We also offer flexible PTO and comprehensive health, dental and vision plans.
Location
This role can be performed in a hybrid capacity with a strong preference to those located in the Bay Area. We have a rad office on Polk St with plenty of conference rooms and space to collaborate. We want to empower our employees to do their best work, whether that’s collaborating in-person with co-workers, focus-time at home, or both.
