Senior Java Package Ecosystem Expert

We are seeking a Senior Java Package Ecosystem Expert to bring deep expertise in Java package managers, central repositories, and packaging practices to our team. You will collaborate closely with the Lead System Architect and Data Processing Engineer to ensure our data processing system effectively navigates and assimilates the wide array of vulnerabilities and data from all major package repositories, even those with atypical and complex structures.

Responsibilities:

• Leverage your extensive knowledge of the Java ecosystem to enhance the system's capabilities

• Collaborate with the Lead System Architect and Senior Data Engineer to design and implement Java-specific components within the data processing system

• Analyze and assess vulnerabilities in Java packages and contribute findings to the vulnerability database

• Provide expert guidance on Java packaging best practices and security considerations

• Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in the Java ecosystem and incorporate relevant advancements into the system

• Actively participate in the development process, making hands-on contributions to the codebase

• Explore and devise innovative methods to identify and process relevant data points across a wide range of datasets and APIs, including those related to vulnerabilities and Java package managers

• Collaborate with data engineers to translate novel vulnerability detection methods into systematic, repeatable processes within our data processing system

• Embrace a fast-paced, iterative development approach, delivering working solutions quickly and continuously improving based on feedback

Requirements

• 10+ years of overall technical experience

• 5+ years of deep expertise in Java package managers, central repositories, and packaging practices

• Strong Java development skills and familiarity with the Java ecosystem

• Experience with software supply chain security and vulnerability analysis

• Proven experience using LLMs, such as GPT, Claude, and Copilot, for security research and analysis

• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills

• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, agile environment

• Passionate about staying at the cutting edge of Java packaging and security practices

• Thrives in a fast-paced startup environment, comfortable with rapid iterations and adaptable to changing requirements

• Resourceful and creative problem-solver, able to deliver results with limited resources and tight deadlines

Benefits

Salary of $120,000 to $140,000 CAD / year, depending on experience
