Reverse osmosis (RO) systems are essential for treating industrial wastewater but readily clog from organics (a process called "fouling"). Fouling can triple the energy, maintenance, and replacement needs of the system, incurring unbearably high OPEX. The best defense is to pretreat the water to remove organics upstream; without pretreatment, an RO system will be incapacitated within hours.

ZwitterCo's membranes are built from a novel polymer designed to affordably and precisely remove organics from wastewater; we deliver ideal pretreatment to protect RO units. Standard nanofilters quickly and permanently foul from organics, inconsistently block small molecules, and have low productivity per area. Our membranes have unprecedented fouling resistance, regain factory performance with a water rinse, uniformly block organics larger than ~1nm, and have 10x higher productivity per area.

Our solution will have the lowest levelized cost to use and will save mid-size RO facilities ~$1M/year.
