Plastic recycling is a very prominent business; however lack of resources, infrastructure and training has resulted in more than 80% of waste plastic accumulating in the environment annually. After identifying a gap Vital decided to help solve this huge anathema. However this has been a very interesting journey for the company. Since operations started in January 2018, the company has won a US$5 000 grant, collected an estimated 5 tonnes of plastic waste, been in partnership with over 10 organisations which include corp-orates, retail shops and participated in Demo Africa Innovation tour Harare. As part of its expansion plan Vital is developing a waste management application that forms an integrated system for waste collections, marketing and will also be social platform to engage the public in a block chain revenue model. The business model is expected to greatly improve management of waste plastic and increase recycling efficiency within Zimbabwe and Africa in the next 24 months.
