I was an early employee at G2, a reviews based marketplace for finding software. After spending 5 years building G2, I was looking for a financial advisor and looking for reviews of financial advisors. At that time in ~2018, the SEC barred advisors from using client reviews in their marketing. I joined another startup in the Financial space and spent 5 years selling into financial institutions. In 2021, the SEC updated their marketing rule to allow for advisors to use client reviews. I spent ~6 months doing user research with both consumers and advisors and then spent ~ 6 months building the platform before launching. I'm inspired by review sites like ZocDoc, that make the process of finding a doctor feel safe and simple. My hope is that type of process can be brought to finding a financial advisor.
