• Define the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for critical security capabilities, prioritizing investments based on user needs, risk impact, business value, and regulatory requirements.
• Partner with security engineers and engineering teams to translate pain points into clear requirements, scope MVPs, sequence releases, and make thoughtful build, buy, and retire decisions.

• Define and drive the product strategy and roadmap for Upstart's marketing technology platform, aligning investments with business priorities and channel needs.
• Evaluate existing marketing tools, data infrastructure, and workflows across Lifecycle, Digital, Direct Mail, and Partner channels to identify gaps, opportunities for integration, and areas for improvement.

• Lead a team of analysts and data scientists who are embedded with each marketing channel and responsible end to end for its work
• Put experimentation at the center of the team's work: decide which tests are worth running across channels, and make sure the results change what marketing does next

• Lead, coach, and develop a team of quality control professionals, establishing clear performance expectations, consistent calibration practices, and effective testing execution.
• Build and enhance the quality control program, including risk-based testing plans, standardized review criteria, statistically sound sampling methodologies, and documentation that supports regulatory and audit readiness.

• Own the design and delivery of large, complex frontend and full-stack initiatives using React and TypeScript, from planning and sequencing through launch and long-term maintenance.
• Set technical direction for the team's frontend architecture and full-stack patterns, owning a 3–6 month roadmap and proactively addressing systemic gaps that threaten team effectiveness.

• Own technical onboarding of lending partners from requirements gathering and data mapping through testing, production launch, and initial post launch support.
• Configure and support integrations using Workato, REST APIs, SFTP, and existing core banking connector frameworks.

• Guide incrementality measurement across our marketing channels, working with the analysts who run tests in each channel on design and interpretation, so the team knows what each channel causes rather than what it gets credit for
• Apply causal inference methods when a clean test isn't feasible, so budget decisions still rest...

• Shape strategic direction by identifying the gaps and questions others miss. You're not waiting for orders; you're setting the agenda.
• Be a thought partner to leaders across product, finance, and ML. You help them understand complex problems from first principles and define what actually matters.

• Support short- and long-term financial planning, forecasting, and budget management for the Unsecured Lending organization
• Develop executive-ready insights and commentary for recurring forecast and business reviews, month-end close, and annual planning

• Lakehouse Infrastructure and Security: Own the Databricks platform across multiple environments, including a newly launched regulated environment (Upstart Bank). Responsibilities include expanding infrastructure as code for new Lakehouse features, enforcing a no-click-ops policy, establishing disaster recovery, implementing least-privilege and attribute-based access controls (e.g., based on data classification), ensuring environment isolation, and resolving other known security risks.

• Build and improve the tooling, services, and automation that help engineers understand and improve the reliability of production systems
• Develop shared observability capabilities that make metrics, logs, traces, service health, and customer impact easier to understand and act on

• + Build and lead a high-performing team spanning data integration, data quality, metadata, and ML-critical data infrastructure for online inference and offline training, including standing up new dedicated integration capacity where needed.

Set and execute the technical strategy aligned to measurable north star metrics such as increasing data evaluation velocity and reducing time to production.
Drive robust data quality and reconciliation frameworks, including retro vs. production checks, ingress-level monitoring, and drift detection to prevent launch issues and downstream model degradation.
Champion a company-wide shift toward data contracts and SLAs, ensuring data producers adopt clear ownership, quality standards, and monitoring practices for ML-critical datasets.
Establish clear end-to-end ownership across the third-party and internal data lifecycle, eliminating fragmented workflows and implicit accountability.
Accelerate third-party data onboarding by operationalizing standardized vendor intake, secure retro ingestion, templated integrations, and configurable microservices that reduce engineering lift and cycle time.
Unlock internal data for ML innovation by improving metadata coverage, lineage standards, ownership contracts, and ML discoverability across high-impact internal domains

• Research machine learning and statistical approaches to discover improvements to the predictive performance and/or business value of a model.
• Design, implement, and evaluate model, product, or technical enhancements using rigorous experimentation and validation methods.

• Lead, coach, and develop a team of product managers, setting clear priorities and raising the quality of product management across the organization.
• Define the product strategy and roadmap for the platforms powering Upstart’s credit decisioning and machine learning capabilities.

• Keep help desk inquiries and requests organized and up to date via internal ticketing system (Jira Service Desk).
• Onboarding and off-boarding of new employees, temporary employees, vendors, and contractors.

• Own the engineering roadmap for Upstart's marketplace simulation platform, and decide which teams and use cases it serves next
• Lead, coach, and grow a team of engineers working across distributed services, offline data pipelines, and large-scale compute

• Lead application security projects from planning through implementation, coordinating contributors and dependencies to deliver high-quality outcomes.
• Conduct threat modeling and security architecture reviews for complex customer-facing applications, APIs, distributed services, and AI/ML systems.

• Define the cross-company technical vision and roadmap for Upstart's pricing platform, ensuring alignment across Pricing, Personal Loans, Auto, HELOC, ML, and Product organizations.
• Lead the architectural evolution from tightly coupled, sequential workflows toward modular, reusable platform capabilities across loan products.

• Build and improve services, automation, and developer tooling that enable engineering teams to safely release and deploy software to production
• Develop reliable deployment capabilities, including progressive rollouts, deployment health analysis, and automated rollback, to reduce the risk of production changes

• Identify the highest-impact causes of payment failures and lead solutions that improve payment success and borrower outcomes.
• Improve how we understand an individual borrower’s ability to repay, including through thoughtful use of third-party data sources.
