Fashion is one of the most polluting industries in the world. The efforts being made to tackle this problem are insufficient and unrealistic. Sustainable fashion is expensive and there is an expectation of consumption suppression (i.e. consume fewer clothes). I have created an app that facilitates clothes swaps. By swapping, we can satisfy the growing demand for clothes, save money and help to tackle the problem of waste with little effort. The problem with the existing secondhand goods market is that it is a zero sum game - for every winner, there is a loser. Sellers have to sell at a percentage of purchase value. Buyers do get clothes for a lower price but at the expense of the seller. All platforms have transaction fees - paid for by either the buyer or the seller.
By eliminating money from the transaction, there is mutual benefit for both users. Swapping not only saves users money but sustainability is built into the act of barter because you have to give to get.
People are not averse to secondhand fashion: the market is growing exponentially and is expected to be 1.5x the size of the fast fashion industry by 2030.
