The Role

The Role

Spoiler Alert is seeking a high-performing, experienced Business Development Representative (BDR) to add new, globally-recognized CPG brands to its pipeline.

As the market leader in helping CPG brands digitize their discounting strategies for excess and aging inventory, Spoiler Alert’s newest BDR will play a pivotal role in supporting the growth of our enterprise sales pipeline by identifying and qualifying potential leads from the CPG industry using account-based and persona specific prospecting efforts. This role is ideal for individuals with a passion for sales, a knack for building relationships, and a keen interest in technology-driven solutions within the CPG and grocery retail sectors. We’re looking for a driven, hungry, and creative individual to take our customer base to the next level. We are looking for a candidate that is eager to develop their career within Sales or Business Development. Following initial success in this role, there will be an opportunity to grow into an Account Executive or lead the development of a larger BDR program.

We have a big mission and large market opportunity, and this individual should be passionate about leveraging technology to reduce waste and increase affordable access to products. The ideal candidate will possess an extreme sense of urgency, high degree of intelligence, an aptitude at navigating large and complex organizations, and an ambition to grow into an account executive with time.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct outbound prospecting for and qualification of enterprise leads from food, beverage, and CPG brands, focusing on key decision-makers within Supply Chain, Sales Operations, and Finance functions
  • Leverage strategic, account-based outbound outreach tactics - in close coordination with our Account Executives - via email, phone calls, and LinkedIn to engage potential customers and initiate meaningful conversations to pass on to Account Executives
  • Build and cultivate prospect relationships to move opportunities through the early stages of the sales funnel and convert leads to active opportunities
  • Utilize a consultative approach to understand prospects' pain points and business challenges, effectively positioning our solution and value proposition
  • Schedule and coordinate meetings for Account Executives, ensuring a smooth handover of qualified leads
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of lead interactions and prospecting activities in Hubspot and Gong
  • Continuously stay informed about industry trends, market dynamics, and competitive landscape to effectively articulate the value proposition of our solution
  • Meet or exceed monthly quotas for lead generation and qualification
  • Collaborate closely with the Sales, Marketing, and Revenue Operations teams to provide ongoing feedback and insights on sales motions, GTM processes and marketing materials to enhance effectiveness and efficiency
  • Spearhead prospecting efforts into new verticals, working with Data and Customer Success teams to uncover messaging, datapoints, and testimonials that drive pipeline development in these segments

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in sales or business development with formal training on account-based outbound tactics
  • Proven track record of exceeding targets and quotas in a sales-driven environment
  • Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal) with an ability to work as a team player, build trust, and engage prospects effectively and build rapport
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team, with a high level of initiative and self-motivation
  • A proactive and results-oriented mindset, with a willingness to adapt to evolving priorities and challenges.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and metrics to identify opportunities for lead generation optimization and strategic targeting
  • Ability to develop and execute strategic sales plans to penetrate within enterprise accounts, including identifying key decision-makers, building relationships, and navigating organizational structures
  • Familiarity with business productivity applications (Zoom, Slack, HubSpot CRM, G-Suite, Gong) and a high level of comfort and willingness to get up to speed with new technology

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a B2B software or technology company
  • Understanding of the complexities of the CPG industry's supply chain, distribution channels, and retail operations, including knowledge of industry-specific trends and challenges

About Spoiler Alert

Spoiler Alert is a Boston-based software company helping perishable CPG brands manage excess and slow-moving inventory. Working exclusively at the manufacturing plant or distribution center level, Spoiler Alert offers a best-in-class B2B sales platform that enables food & beverage brands to manage their liquidation processes across a private network of discount retailers and nonprofit channels - with a heavy focus on maximizing value recovery, strengthening customer relationships, and increasing the effectiveness of supply chain managers tasked with handling these typically manual sales processes. Founded by alumni of MIT, Spoiler Alert works with some of the world's largest brands, including Campbell's, Danone, HelloFresh, KeHE Distributors, and Kraft Heinz, along with a growing network of discount channels committed to increasing affordable food access.

While we care deeply about our customers’ financial and operational improvements, our team’s hearts and minds are motivated by the impact our work has in addressing some of the largest environmental and social opportunities of our generation - at the intersection of food waste, resource deficiency, climate change, affordable nutrition, and hunger. We couldn’t be more excited to be combining critical technology breakthroughs - including workflow automation, augmented intelligence, wholesale ecommerce, traceability, and supply chain management - to an industry that is so critical for daily life.

Born out of MIT in 2015, Spoiler Alert is headquartered in Boston's Back Bay neighborhood and is backed by some of the nation's leading food, agriculture, and supply chain investors. For more about Spoiler Alert, visit spoileralert.com or our social channels: Twitter & LinkedIn.
