There are now over 80,000 opioid overdose deaths per year in the US, making the opioid epidemic the #1 cause of death for Americans under 50. The drug naloxone (commonly known by the brand name Narcan) is nearly 100% effective at reversing opioid overdose, but current forms require a capable bystander to administer the drug. When somebody overdoses, they often lose consciousness and motor control. Put simply, “You can’t Narcan yourself.” Half of opioid overdose deaths occur without a bystander present, and therefore 40,000 people are dying every year because existing forms of naloxone cannot save them. Resilient Lifescience is building the solution: a wearable medical device that is capable of automatically detecting and reversing an opioid overdose. Since starting in April, we have built a functioning prototype, confirmed purchasing interest with state governments, filed a utility patent for our technology, and validated user interest on the streets of Philadelphia and across the US. We are a seed-stage, venture-backed startup planning to scale our team in 2023. As an early employee, you will work closely with founders Brad and Charlie to bring our product to life. We are looking for passionate individuals to join us full-time in Pittsburgh to help take our device from proof-of-concept to production.
