at the heart of cardiorenal syndrome
1 in 5 adults will develop heart failure. For the sickest patients, <1% receive treatment annually due to scarcity, cost, and high risk of current treatments.

This leaves over 2 million patients living with heart failure in the US, suffering from fatigue, painful swelling, and difficulty breathing with any activity. Medication is no longer effective for these patients, but they are not sick enough to warrant invasive or dangerous treatments, such as Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVADs), transplants, or last-resort medications that shorten life span while improving symptoms.

Procyrion Inc, (Houston, TX) has developed a solution: Aortix is a circulatory support pump implanted without surgery. Thinner than a #2 pencil, a cardiologist implants Aortix through a catheter in the leg, deploying it between the heart and the kidneys to unload the failing heart and improve flow to vital organs. This first-in-class device allows the heart to rest and heal while correcting fluid imbalance.
