Budgeting is only effective when you develop a habit of monitoring your transactions and check-in regularly to see if you actually have the funds to spend on a specific purchase.


For these reasons, Pockets doesn't categorize your transactions automatically for you like most personal finance apps. Instead, users create custom categories that better suit their spending (i.e. Rent, Coffee, Gym Membership, etc.). They disburse the money that they have into these "Pockets", planning in advance what they intend to spend the money on. Then, when a transaction from a linked bank account comes in, they simply cover the transaction with money from one of their "Pockets".
