Pearl Certification is a national firm that provides third-party certification of high-performing homes: homes with “performance assets” that make them healthier, safer, more comfortable, and more energy efficient. The Pearl Certification system is based on national codes and standards, including the International Energy Conservation Code and the federal ENERGY STAR® program. Pearl also verifies homes’ participation in other programs, like Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® and ENERGY STAR for New Homes®. Pearl’s certification system was developed with technical assistance from the National Renewable Energy Lab; it is used to create a Home Asset Inventory, assign points to certain high-performing assets (like heating and cooling equipment), and qualify a home for certification based on the total score earned. Energy efficient homes can earn an Asset, Silver, Gold, or Platinum Certificate based on the efficiency level and prevalence of the home’s assets. Pearl also provides a Solar Certification for homes that have solar panel systems. Pearl works in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy, ENERGY STAR®, and many of the nation’s leading real estate, appraisal, contracting, and building science organizations - including the Appraisal Institute, the Building Performance Institute (BPI), the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA), the National Comfort Institute (NC), and the National Association of REALTORS®. Pearl Certification is a recognized data field in the Real Estate Standards Organization’s data dictionary for Multiple Listing Services.
