There are more than 8 million people with renal disease world-wide. We are building a semi-automatic dialysis machine that can be used overnight. This is a lower cost alternative to high cost treatments such as a kidney transplant, hemodialysis and automatic dialysis.

However, the biggest problem we are solving is for patients that are using manual dialysis. In developing countries this represents a majority of patients. Patients using manual dialysis must stay at home basically all the time. Furthermore, they need assistance in their treatment, usually this comes from a family member. For low-income families in developing countries this means two people unable to generate income. Our solution is a low cost semi-automatic system that can be used overnight. By having the dialysis treatment during the night both the patient and family member will have more freedom to do things during the day. This will improve the quality life of both the patient and their families.
