Pray that someone (with a million papercuts on their hands) who receives your check can read your illegible scrawl and deposit your check. 2) Because you live in an apartment building where in order to get something fixed, you have to go on a scavenger hunt to try and find the superintendent! Is he in his office? No, of course not. Is he in the basement? Maybe. Is he in someone else's apartment? Could be. Does he answer his cell phone? Nope. And once you've found him and told him what's wrong, he takes a week to resolve it. Nice. 3) Because you just moved to NYC and don't know anything about your property and/or neighborhood. You go online to find services using sites like Yelp that are full of useless reviews. You need to hire a handyman to install that beautiful light fixture you brought from your old place but don't know where to even begin. Maybe you could ask the superintendent? Nope, (See reason #2 above) Want a nice in-home massage to relax after all that stressful moving and decorating? Too bad! You don't even know that a service that sends reasonably priced massage therapists to your apartment even exists, so it sucks to be you. 4) Insert your own multifamily living nightmare that could easily be solved by the judicious use of modern online technology here.
