Luma Therapeutics is focused on helping the 40M people in the US with inflammatory skin disease. The Luma Light System contains three main components: ultraviolet LEDs to suppress the immune response, a mobile app to personalize the treatment and a therapeutic patch to decrease plaque thickness. The light communicates via Bluetooth to the phone app to gather patient feedback. The light attaches temporarily to the dressing via small high powered magnets for easy passive treatment. The controller is programmed to only allow the light to be delivered when in direct contact with the patch.
The combined effect of these components (i) provides rapid remission of plaques (~3 weeks vs. 3 months for office light), (ii) extends remission (1 year vs. 6 months), (iii) increases patient convenience by allowing precise therapeutic light dosing at home (iv) increases efficacy (>90% vs 70%) and (v) increases patient engagement and adherence through a smartphone app that personalizes therapy.
