Forest Devices has created AlphaStroke, the first stroke screening device
AlphaStroke alerts users to possible strokes within 2 minutes. This allows patients to be taken directly to the correct hospital and shortens time to treatment, the single most important factor in minimizing permanent brain damage. With sufficient machine learning, it will be able to differentiate between small and large strokes, which result in significantly better outcomes when treated at a comprehensive center. Patients have faster access to the proper care.
There is also significant opportunities to create value in emergency rooms, where AlphaStroke will rule out stroke for patients who present dizzy symptoms and eliminate most of the 2 million annual unneeded head scans on stroke negative patients. This will also prevent elderly patients from unnecessary exposure to radiation.
