Ten million people in the U.S. have brain aneurysms. If the aneurysm is critical, because it has burst, or it may burst, it is treated surgically with either an aneurysm clip or an aneurysm coil. Both of these devices are made of metal and obscure any post-operative MRI or CT imaging of the brain. We have invented a nonmetal aneurysm clip that does not affect imaging, thus enabling accurate, noninvasive evaluation of patients with one or more clipped aneurysms.
