At Bolster, we know first hand how hard it is to support a loved one through the turbulence of mental ill-health. Friends and family are usually the first to notice something is wrong, desperate to help and crucial to recovery, but often receive little or no support to best care for their loved one. That’s why we are building the world’s first online community for people supporting a loved one experiencing mental ill-health; to empower friends and family and provide them with the practical guidance and emotional reassurance that can only come from others with the same lived experiences. There are 97 million parents of 10–19 year olds suffering from anxiety in the developed world, and 40 million whose child self harms. If you include partners, friends, siblings and other family, the number quickly approaches a billion people going through the same lived experiences - but there are no specific products and services designed for supporters and carers. Bolster fills that gap. We grew out of Zinc, a new company builder to create businesses to solve the world’s biggest problems. Zinc was co-founded by Saul Klein, Paul Kirby and Ella Goldner, and is funded by LocalGlobe, the London-based VC fund. We are currently pre-seed, but actively engaged with investors about an upcoming seed round.
