Atrevida Science careers
Atrevida Science is developing an active morphing blade for wind turbines targeting the massive and growing offshore wind market. From extensive customer discovery, we know that efficiency and failure are plaguing this industry. Our design is an active morphing blade that changes its shape to optimal geometry according to the wind conditions. This product gives our customers increased efficiency and sheds loads that are detrimental to the system.
We have a non-provisional patent of our technology as well as licensing rights. And our goal in licensing this design to our customers is to give them the active control they need. Our customers have told us that bigger blades, static designs that are environmentally unfriendly, and an insistence on land-based installations are the old paradigms. The new paradigm is Atrevida Science’s actuated blade that provides active control to increase efficiency, reduce loading, and improve stability. We offer as much as a 14% increase in efficiency (1% efficiency improvement is considered significant in this industry and financially means that a 2 MW machine will produce approximately $100K more electricity during its lifetime.). Savings are also realized through load and maintenance reduction and improved stability of the turbine structure. Our mission is to license this technology.
In addition to the wind industry, our customer discovery indicates that aircraft and shipbuilding industries also have pain points that will benefit from our active morphing blade technology.
Our team has a combination of related industrial and academic experience: Claudia Maldonado, IE, experience in manufacturing and business startups; Hamid Khakpour, Ph.D. ME, 6 years of research on AMB; John Hall, Ph.D. ME, 12 years of research on wind energy conversion systems. Our team has over 50 years of combined industry experience.
A fully commercialized, licensed product will require $7 M in total investment. To date, $250 K has been secured.
