The Mission: Transform civic engagement! Create a platform where everyone can easily find, vote, and see results for pending legislation they care about, at local/state/national/global levels, including analytics and transparency on representative voting records.

Then see results - so they feel like their voice is heard and their vote counts. Enable our users and customers to see living results and analytics for their city, county, state, nation and planet. Imagine voting in your next election knowing which candidates has voted with you based on actual vote data on topics and legislation you care about rather than political spin. Pinion makes engaging with politics easy, engaging and enlightening for a healthier democracy. Our tech team is building a new platform - web and mobile – to make our civic engagement with government and other organizations better. We are seeking tech professionals with both technical experience and interest in our mission.

Team: - The Pinion team is a small but growing group of motivated professionals who believe in the power of public opinion to improve civic engagement, democracy, and make our world better. We are looking for team players who are motivated, independent, friendly and professional. Our tech team is small, currently 6-8, so we prefer someone who has experience supporting a flexible development team (scrum/agile) methodologies where we all are willing to work on whatever needs attention. We are all remote with weekly team meetings to keep up on track and expect to work asynchronously and flexibly.

Technical - We are seeking a data/analytics professional who can help us use current and emerging tools to create our platform analytics - skilled with and knowledgeable about data models and analytics. Our current DB is using SQL. We are looking for someone to manage our current data and (if necessary) transition our data collection and analytics environments into something more advanced and to support our development pathway of web then mobile iterations. Our current tech stack is Linux, Windows, Jira, Azure, Azure DevOps, SQL/NoSQL, JS/React, Entity Framework.
It is of note that we are not seeking web usage analytics as our primary focus. We are seeking an individual with an ability to create a full spectrum of web usage, data analytics, and dashboard reports of both internal and external data.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Develop analytics (software and strategy) for what and how we will make best use of our new data assets. This will include: - Creation of analytics practices for visualization, interogation and reporting. - Data cleaning and preparation. - Data/Statistical analysis. - Knowledge of programming paradigms essential for analysis and preparation.
• Develop our business intelligence product for effective data insight delivery
• Understand and leverage the existing civic engagement data ecosystem.
• Identify external data sources that could be useful for the product.
• Develop strategies for sustainably connecting to those data sources.
• Guide/build a data model and technologies for how/where this data can be housed.
• Build and operate ETL jobs to land and refresh data.
• Partner with the Pinion development team to integrate the new data into the product end user experience.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience working with ETL tools.
• 2+ years of experience working with data analysis and visualization.
• Experience working with Relational Database technologies such as SQL Server.
• Familiarity with cloud technologies such as Microsoft Azure/AWS/GCP
• Experience working with software development teams.
• Experience with governmental data sources a plus.

Compensation

PLEASE NOTE - We are a true early stage start up (pre-funding/pre-revenue). We are all working for equity PART TIME FOR NOW using the Slicing Pie methodology (www.slicingpie.com) to fairly allocate equity in the company. This role is intended to grow into a full-time position in the future as we gain funding and revenues. An ideal candidate should be self-sufficient with the available bandwidth to reliably contribute, be interested in our mission and technology, and comfortable with our early stage, “boot strapping” startup status. It may be bumpy ride, but it should be a fun one! Also, Angel List requires that this post be classified as a "Cofounder" in order to post on the site. While you will be part of our founding team, this is NOT a legal employment offer for a "cofounder role" - all of our team members are on contractor work agreements. Finally - this is a flexible fully remote position.
