QA Engineer (Manual + Automation)

What we need

We have an exceptional in-house engineering team and are looking to add a hands-on QA Engineer to help us build a market-leading, API-first insurance platform.

You’ll work closely with Upcover’s CTO and engineers, owning quality across web and backend systems, and helping us scale confidence in releases through strong manual testing and modern automation practices.

Our stack includes Node.js, GCP (Cloud Functions), Firebase on the backend and Next.js (React), HTML, CSS, JavaScript on the frontend.

What you have

• 1–3 years of QA experience (manual + automation)
• Strong programming skills in JavaScript / TypeScript
• Hands-on experience with Playwright for UI automation
• Experience testing REST APIs using Supertest, Postman, or similar tools
• Experience with Jest, Mocha, or similar JS/TS test runners
• Solid understanding of HTTP, APIs, auth flows, headers, and tokens
• Experience testing modern web applications (React preferred)
• Comfortable working with Git (GitHub / GitLab)
• Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills
• Clear written and verbal communication skills

What you will do

• Perform end-to-end manual testing (functional, exploratory, regression, smoke)
• Design, develop, and maintain automated UI tests using Playwright
• Build and maintain API automation using Supertest
• Work with TypeScript/JavaScript to create scalable, maintainable test suites
• Collaborate with developers and product to clarify requirements and acceptance criteria
• Participate in release testing, root-cause analysis, and quality improvements
• Set up and maintain CI/CD test execution (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, etc.)
• Log clear, actionable defects and maintain test documentation
• Ensure strong test coverage across UI, API, integration, and regression layers

Nice to have

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and test reporting
• Familiarity with Docker and cloud environments
• Exposure to microservices architectures
• Insurance or fintech domain experience
