About the job

Job Title: Senior Android Developer – Banking Domain

Location: Austin, TX and Dalla, TX Onsite

Fulltime/Permanent

Role Overview

We are looking for a Senior Android Developer to design, build, and support secure, reliable, and high-performing Android mobile banking applications. The role requires strong native Android engineering expertise, sound knowledge of digital banking journeys, and the ability to deliver solutions that meet stringent security, privacy, regulatory, and availability expectations.

The developer will collaborate with product owners, architects, UX teams, backend/API teams, cybersecurity, QA, compliance, and operations to deliver customer-facing features such as onboarding, authentication, account servicing, payments, cards, alerts, and service requests.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain native Android banking applications using Kotlin and modern Android development practices.
  • Implement secure customer journeys covering onboarding, login, biometric authentication, account servicing, fund transfers, bill payments, card controls, notifications, and service requests.
  • Translate business, UX, security, and regulatory requirements into scalable Android designs aligned with enterprise architecture standards.
  • Integrate Android applications with API gateways, REST/JSON services, identity platforms, payment services, analytics, fraud controls, Firebase services, and approved third-party SDKs.
  • Apply secure coding practices including Android Keystore, encryption, certificate pinning, secure storage, session management, root detection, code obfuscation, and protection against common mobile threats.
  • Build reusable components using MVVM or Clean Architecture, Jetpack libraries, dependency injection, Coroutines, Flow, and modular design.
  • Create unit, integration, UI, and automated regression tests using JUnit, MockK/Mockito, Espresso, and Compose testing; support security, accessibility, performance, UAT, and production validation.
  • Monitor application performance, crashes, ANRs, security events, and customer-impacting issues; troubleshoot incidents and contribute to root-cause analysis.
  • Participate in code reviews, threat-model discussions, release-readiness reviews, Google Play submissions, and controlled production deployments.
  • Mentor developers, promote engineering standards, and collaborate within Agile delivery teams.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Core Experience

  • 6+ years of software development experience, including at least 4+ years in native Android application development.
  • Advanced proficiency in Kotlin, Java, Android SDK, Android Studio, Jetpack, Coroutines, Flow, and Jetpack Compose.
  • Proven experience developing customer-facing applications in banking, financial services, payments, fintech, or another highly regulated industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of MVVM, Clean Architecture, Android lifecycle, dependency injection using Hilt/Dagger, modularization, SOLID principles, and design patterns.
  • Experience integrating REST APIs, OAuth 2.0/OpenID Connect, token-based authentication, Android biometrics, push notifications, deep links, analytics, and crash-reporting tools.
  • Understanding of Android banking security controls, including encryption in transit and at rest, Android Keystore, certificate pinning, root detection, code obfuscation, Play Integrity API, and OWASP Mobile risks.
  • Experience with JUnit, MockK/Mockito, Espresso, and Compose UI testing, along with testable design practices.
  • Hands-on experience with Gradle, Git-based workflows, Fastlane, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Bitrise, or Azure DevOps.
  • Knowledge of Android performance, memory, battery, networking, offline handling, observability, and production troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with Android accessibility, localization, data privacy, auditability, secure SDLC, and Google Play release requirements.

Good to Have

  • Experience with digital banking, payments, cards, wallets, lending, wealth, or customer onboarding platforms.
  • Knowledge of PCI DSS, PSD2/SCA, regional privacy requirements, fraud-risk controls, or banking technology governance.
  • Exposure to payment gateways, tokenization, OTP/push authentication, passkeys, device binding, or risk-based authentication.
  • Experience with Android modular platforms, dynamic features, feature flags, remote configuration, white-label applications, or reusable SDK development.
  • Understanding of cross-platform technologies such as Flutter or React Native.

Behavioral & Leadership Skills

  • Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills, with attention to security and customer impact.
  • Clear communication and effective collaboration with business, product, architecture, security, compliance, QA, and operations stakeholders.
  • Ability to own features end-to-end and deliver reliably within regulated release and change-management processes.
  • Customer-focused mindset with strong attention to usability, accessibility, resilience, and data privacy.

Leadership mindset with willingness to mentor team members and continuously improve engineering practices.
