Senior Software Engineer (Python)

We’re looking for a self-driven Senior Python Developer with leadership skills to join a small, fast-moving team building a Hostfully product powered heavily by AI. The team ships quickly, uses AI throughout its development process, and builds LLM-powered features our customers use every day.

About the role

You’ll be a senior technical voice on the team:

• Building core backend services in Python
• Setting the bar for code quality
• Helping turn LLM prototypes into reliable production features

You’ll own key components end to end, from design to production, and your work will have a direct impact on customers and the business.

What you’ll do

• Design, build and own Python backend services that power AI-driven product features
• Take LLM-based features from prototype to production: reliable, observable, cost-efficient and safe
• Lead by example on technical decisions, code reviews and engineering standards
• Mentor developers and help the team ship fast without sacrificing quality, including code produced with AI tools
• Work closely with product managers to shape requirements and find the simplest solution that works
• Contribute to the React frontend when needed
• Build for scale, stability and performance

Required skills

• 9+ years of professional software development, with 7+ years of Python in production
• Strong experience building web services and APIs (FastAPI, Django or Flask)
• Proven experience shipping LLM-powered features to production, including:
• prompt design
• RAG
• tool or function calling
• evaluation
• handling cost, latency and failure modes
• Daily, hands-on use of AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot or similar), with a clear view on how to use them well
• Experience leading or mentoring engineers: code reviews, technical direction and raising the bar for a team
• Solid SQL and relational database experience
• Fluent English, with strong written and verbal communication

Location

Hostfully is based in San Francisco, and our team is fully remote. For this role, we’re looking for someone near the EST time zone or in Europe. Our engineers are located in the US, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, France, Poland, Kosovo, the Czech Republic and Turkey.
