About the job
About the role
This is a dual-mandate, 0-to-1 engineering role at a very small, fast-moving startup. You'll be the primary owner of the software our customers and field team actually touch, while also building the data and tooling infrastructure that keeps the whole deployment loop running. Robotics experience is not required — we're intentionally looking beyond robotics-specific backgrounds for a strong generalist builder.
What you'll do
Design and build the UI, interfaces, and customer-facing tools used to deploy, operate, and support our robotics product at customer sites
Act as the primary engineer for turning field feedback and deployment issues into shipped product improvements
Build and maintain data collection pipelines, cloud and database infrastructure, and data organization systems that handle large volumes of daily field data
Build internal tooling and data mining/analysis infrastructure that the team uses to understand how the product is performing in the field
Own your work end-to-end, from design through deployment, with minimal hand-off to other engineers
Partner directly with the founding team to prioritize what gets built next based on real customer deployment feedback
What we're looking for
3+ years of professional software engineering experience
Strong full-stack engineering skills with proven ability to ship customer-facing products end-to-end
Strong data infrastructure experience: pipelines, cloud/database architecture, data organization systems
A track record of shipping real products used by real customers, not just internal prototypes
Comfort moving fluidly between UI/product work and data/toolchain problems, without needing narrowly defined scope
Thrives in a very small (~5-person), fast-moving, ambiguous environment with limited support structure
Must be able to work on-site in San Jose, CA
Nice to have
Experience with platform or toolchain engineering in a startup setting
Background in IoT, hardware-adjacent SaaS, field-ops, fleet, or logistics software (any domain with high-volume field data)
Prior experience as a founding or early engineer at a seed/Series A startup
Robotics industry experience is welcome but explicitly not required
Familiarity with ROS 2 is a nice-to-have, not required
