MERN Stack Developer – Backend & Distributed Systems

About the Role

We are looking for a strong MERN Stack Developer with 3–5 years of experience to join our engineering team. This is a backend-focused full-stack role (60–70% backend) requiring strong hands-on expertise in Node.js, React.js, MongoDB and PostgreSQL.

The ideal candidate should have experience building scalable applications, working with databases and event-driven systems, and should be comfortable taking technical ownership and mentoring junior developers.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable applications using Node.js, React.js, MongoDB and PostgreSQL.
• Build and maintain robust REST APIs and backend services.
• Write and optimize complex MongoDB and PostgreSQL queries, including indexing and performance optimization.
• Work with event-driven architectures using Kafka, RabbitMQ or similar technologies.
• Work with Elasticsearch for search, querying and application use cases.
• Participate in system architecture, database design and technical design decisions.
• Develop reusable React components and integrate frontend applications with APIs.
• Perform code reviews and mentor junior developers.
• Troubleshoot application and database performance issues.

Required Skills

• Strong hands-on experience with Node.js, Express.js and React.js.
• Strong knowledge of MongoDB, including aggregation pipelines, indexing, data modelling and query optimization.
• Good knowledge of PostgreSQL/SQL, including joins, indexing, transactions and query optimization.
• Experience with Kafka, RabbitMQ or another event/message-driven architecture.
• Working experience with Elasticsearch.
• Understanding of Redis and caching concepts.
• Good understanding of REST APIs, asynchronous programming, scalability and application performance.
• Experience participating in architecture/design discussions.
• Experience mentoring or technically guiding junior developers.

Good to Have

Exposure to Docker, containers, Linux and Apache, along with familiarity with Grafana/monitoring tools, is preferred. DevOps expertise is not mandatory.

We want someone who is hands-on, technically strong and comfortable taking ownership. The candidate should be able to understand a requirement, contribute to the technical design, implement it and help guide other developers when required.
