If you want to be at the forefront of this intelligent technology revolution, we want to talk to you about being part of our team. Econolite is committed to employing the best talent that will make significant contributions to building a safer, connected world.

Econolite’s ITS solutions ease traffic congestion, provide safer mobility, and improve quality of life. As the one-stop-shop leader for traffic management systems, sensor products, and services, Econolite is committed to the advancement of connected and autonomous vehicles, smart cities, and cybersecurity.

The Senior Traffic Engineer is responsible for planning, designing, evaluating, and optimizing traffic signal operations for intersections, corridors, and regional transportation systems. This role supports the deployment and operation of Econolite's Centracs® Mobility platform by developing signal timing strategies, conducting operational analyses, validating system performance, and providing technical guidance to agency customers. The ideal candidate combines strong traffic engineering expertise with customer-facing skills to ensure successful project delivery, operational excellence, and long-term client satisfaction.

DUTIES:

  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor throughout the project lifecycle, supporting agencies and stakeholders during deployment and operational phases.
  • Develop, implement, and optimize traffic signal timing plans for intersections, corridors, and regional transportation networks.
  • Conduct traffic operations analyses using tools such as Centracs Mobility, PTV Vissim, Vistro, Flows, Synchro, and SimTraffic.
  • Evaluate traffic signal performance and validate operational improvements through field observations, traffic management system data, and performance measures.
  • Support integration and operation of detection systems, transit signal priority, emergency vehicle preemption, and multimodal transportation strategies.
  • Participate in system design reviews, pilot projects, and development of operational concepts and traffic management strategies.
  • Deliver technical training, engineering guidance, and customer support to agency personnel and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Systems Consultants, and Quality teams to ensure successful project execution and customer acceptance.
  • Prepare technical documentation, reports, and project deliverables that clearly define scope, system configuration, and operational outcomes.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across project teams.
  • Maintain effective communication with customers, project teams, and stakeholders throughout project delivery.
  • Support technical acceptance testing and ensure successful system implementation and customer satisfaction.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • 8–15 years of progressive experience in traffic engineering, transportation operations, or Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).
  • Experience developing, deploying, and validating traffic signal timing plans for public agencies.
  • Expert knowledge of traffic signal operations, coordination principles, traffic flow theory, and timing plan development.
  • Proficiency with traffic engineering and simulation software including Synchro, SimTraffic, PTV Vissim, Visum, Vistro, and related tools.
  • Experience with Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS), preferably Centracs® Mobility or similar traffic management platforms.
  • Strong understanding of NEMA and ATC traffic signal controller standards, detection technologies, and communication systems.
  • Experience evaluating traffic performance measures and implementing data-driven operational improvements.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional project teams.
  • Experience providing technical leadership, mentorship, and customer-facing support.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Ability to work in office, field, and traffic operations environments, including active intersections and Traffic Management Centers (TMCs).
