About the job

About us

Kalmus Labs is building Remora, an AI-native learning platform designed to transform books, documents, and information into interactive, adaptive experiences people genuinely want to spend time with.

We’re combining AI, education, storytelling, design, personality, and technology to create something that feels less like traditional software and more like an environment for learning, thinking, and discovery.

We’re still a small team. That means the people joining now are not stepping into a finished machine, they will help shape the product, the company, and the way people first discover and understand Remora.

About the role

We’re looking for someone who can help turn Remora into something people can see, feel, and understand quickly.

This role sits between video editing, motion design, storytelling, product presentation, and short-form content.

You won’t just be cutting clips together.

You’ll help create the visual language we use to explain Remora, launch features, tell product stories, make short-form content, build trailers and presentation videos, and support our social and PR work with material that actually feels polished and intentional.

Some days that might mean creating a 20-second vertical video for social media.

Some days it might mean designing motion graphics for a product launch.

Some days it might mean taking raw product footage, UI screens, voiceover, music, and a rough idea and turning them into a compelling story.

You’ll have significant creative freedom, but you’ll also be expected to think about why a video exists, who it is for, and what the viewer should feel or understand by the end.

What you’ll do

  • Create short-form video content for platforms such as TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, X, LinkedIn, and other channels where relevant.
  • Edit product demos, launch videos, feature showcases, trailers, explainers, and presentation videos.
  • Design motion graphics, transitions, animated typography, UI motion, and visual storytelling elements.
  • Turn product features and ideas into clear, visually engaging narratives.
  • Work with product footage, screen recordings, voiceover, music, graphics, screenshots, and other assets.
  • Help define the visual style of Kalmus Labs / Remora video content.
  • Collaborate closely with Social Media & Content, PR/Growth, Product Design, and the founder.
  • Support launch campaigns with video and motion assets.
  • Adapt one idea into multiple formats, lengths, and platform-specific versions.
  • Experiment with new formats, pacing, visual styles, hooks, and storytelling structures.
  • Use AI tools where useful for ideation, storyboarding, voice, animation, cleanup, asset generation, editing acceleration, or experimentation.
  • Help us create videos that feel native to the internet, not like generic corporate marketing.
  • Build reusable templates and motion systems where that improves speed and consistency.
  • Help communicate complex product ideas simply and visually.

You might be a good fit if you:

  • have strong instincts for pacing, storytelling, and visual communication;
  • understand that good editing is not just about transitions, but about attention and structure;
  • care about composition, typography, motion, sound, rhythm, and detail;
  • can make something feel polished even with limited raw material;
  • understand short-form content and what makes people keep watching;
  • can take a rough idea and turn it into a coherent video without needing every shot pre-planned for you;
  • take ownership instead of waiting for detailed instructions;
  • are comfortable experimenting and iterating quickly;
  • can receive feedback without becoming overly attached to one version;
  • are willing to challenge an idea if you think there is a better way to communicate it visually;
  • can balance creativity with deadlines and practical constraints;
  • are curious about AI, technology, design, media, or startups;
  • use AI as leverage rather than as a substitute for taste;
  • can work independently while communicating clearly with a small team.

You do not need a long agency career or a traditional film background.

We care much more about taste, execution, storytelling ability, adaptability, and whether you can make people care about what they are watching.

Bonus points if you have experience with

  • motion design;
  • short-form video;
  • product videos;
  • startup launch videos;
  • SaaS / technology content;
  • UI animation;
  • animated typography;
  • explainer videos;
  • trailers;
  • social media content;
  • storyboarding;
  • sound design;
  • color grading;
  • basic 3D;
  • visual effects;
  • After Effects;
  • Premiere Pro;
  • DaVinci Resolve;
  • Final Cut Pro;
  • Blender;
  • Figma;
  • AI video / image / voice tools;
  • building video content from scratch with limited resources.

Work style

  • Remote.
  • Approximately 15–20 hours per week.
  • Highly flexible schedule - work when it fits your life, rather than following a fixed daily timetable.
  • Designed to be compatible with university, another job, freelance work, or other commitments.
  • We care much more about ownership, communication, and consistent output than about when during the day you work.
  • Small, highly collaborative team.
  • Direct communication.
  • Fast iteration.
  • Significant creative freedom.
  • High ownership.
  • Very little bureaucracy.

We are early enough that not everything will come with a perfect brief, storyboard, asset pack, or detailed instruction manual. We are looking for someone who can take an idea, ask the right questions, and help turn it into something real.

Compensation

Equity-first role - Pre-Seed stage

Target equity: ~2%

4-year vesting / 1-year cliff.

We want to be completely transparent: we do not currently have meaningful cash compensation available for this role, because this is a self-starting startup.

This is only a fit for someone who genuinely wants to help build a company from an early stage and is comfortable accepting real startup risk in exchange for meaningful ownership.

There are no guarantees in startups.

The goal, as Kalmus Labs grows, generates revenue, or raises funding, is to transition strong contributors into paid long-term positions as soon as possible.

We are not looking for someone who feels pressured to work for free. We are looking for someone for whom this particular risk/reward tradeoff genuinely makes sense alongside other work/school/personal commitments.

How to apply

📩 Send us:

  • portfolio / reel / YouTube / Vimeo / social accounts;
  • 2–5 pieces of work that best represent your editing, motion, or storytelling ability;
  • anything you’ve animated, edited, directed, designed, or helped produce;
  • and a few honest sentences about what kind of videos, motion design, or visual storytelling you personally find exciting - and what you would want to create with us.

Send to: [email protected]

Please avoid AI-generated essays or generic corporate applications. One truthful sentence is worth more than a couple of AI-written abstracts.

Using AI is completely fine - we actively use it ourselves. But we want to see your taste, visual judgment, storytelling instincts, and way of thinking, not polished filler.
