Description

SAIC is seeking a highly motivated Rocket Modeling System Engineer to support U.S. Air Force and U.S. Space Force launch and missile programs, including the Force Development Evaluation (FDE) Program and the Rocket Systems Launch Program (RSLP) in San Bernadino, California. This role is part of a multi-disciplinary team that performs independent analysis and modeling/simulation of rocket and launch vehicle systems. The position offers the opportunity to work a variety of launch vehicle and ICBM programs, develop advanced aerospace skills, and help shape the future of U.S. missile and space launch technology.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Perform post-flight verification of rocket/launch vehicle simulation predictions and update models based on test.
  • Conduct hazards analyses and performance assessments to ensure launch vehicles meet mission requirements.
  • Execute non-linear six-degree-of-freedom (6DOF) simulation analyses under nominal, off-nominal, and Monte Carlo conditions.
  • Develop, modify, and maintain software tools and models supporting missile and launch vehicle performance prediction.
  • Review and support team activities across multiple missions, assessing accuracy, error models, and validation statistics.
  • Prepare and present technical analyses, reports, and briefings to internal teams and government customers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace/aeronautics, mathematics/statistics, computer science, physics, or related field with 3+ years of industry experience; or MS with 2+ years.
  • Active DoD Secret security clearance.
  • Proficiency in at least one scientific programming language (e.g., MATLAB, FORTRAN, C++, Python).
  • Experience in missile and/or aircraft dynamics, GN&C, feedback control, estimation, inertial navigation, and/or GPS.
  • Ability to communicate technical findings in written reports and presentations.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10%.

Desired Qualifications

  • Strong computer science background, including programming, compilers, and shell scripting in a Linux environment.
  • Experience validating and verifying missile or aircraft GN&C systems using 6DOF simulations and/or covariance analyses.
  • Experience presenting technical material and interfacing directly with government or industry customers.
  • Experience with ICBM weapon systems and associated analysis tools.

Target salary range $40,001 - $80,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
