About the job

About Galvix

Galvix is a managed sales tax compliance service for mid-market and enterprise companies in the US. We connect to a customer's ERP or billing system and take over their entire indirect tax obligation: determination, registrations, exemption certificates, return filing, and notice resolution.

We run this on our own platform. Proprietary software and AI do the volume work that other firms throw people at. What automation cannot do is know when it's wrong, and sales tax is a domain of exceptions. A customer adds a product line that lands in an unmapped category. A sync silently starts dropping a field. A state changes its rate structure mid-quarter. The system keeps executing its configuration faithfully, and the failure surfaces months later as an audit assessment.

This role is the technical layer that catches that.

The Role

Mostly ongoing technical ownership, with a shorter implementation phase up front.

Implementation (roughly 20% of your time). Our integrations with NetSuite, QuickBooks Online, Zoho, and Stripe already exist. Your job is to understand a new customer's actual workflow, set the integration up correctly against it, and verify rigorously that the data flowing through is right before anyone relies on it. Configure determination, migrate and reconcile historical transactions, validate the output.

Technical account management (the rest). You own the account indefinitely after go-live. Monitor its health, investigate anomalies in what the system produces, and root-cause failures across the stack: customer-side data change, mapping gap, rule change, or a bug on our side. You are the customer's technical point of contact and the person who signs off before their returns go out.

This is not a core platform engineering role, and there is no support queue to hand off to. You own the outcome, which sometimes means writing a query to quantify a problem and sometimes means calling a state tax agency because their portal is broken and a filing is due Friday.

What You'll Do

Onboarding. Run technical discovery with the customer's finance team. Configure the existing integration to match how they actually invoice and bill: field mapping, sync behaviour, entity and location setup. Configure determination logic, including nexus profiles, product taxability, and tax category mapping. Migrate historical transactions, reconcile them at scale, and resolve every discrepancy before go-live.

Ongoing ownership. Take a portfolio of accounts through the monthly filing cycle: review system output, investigate anything that doesn't reconcile, sign off before returns are filed. Debug sync failures and determination errors end to end by reading logs, querying data, and isolating the cause. Write SQL to reconcile transaction sets and quantify the blast radius of an issue. Build the monitoring that catches problems earlier: detection queries, anomaly alerts, and health checks across your accounts. Work state portals and call state departments of revenue when registrations, notices, or access issues require it.

Customer relationship. Be the technical point of contact for your accounts, from Controller to their engineering team. Proactively surface problems in a customer's setup, including ones they don't know they have. Translate technical findings into language a CFO can act on. Support enterprise requirements like SSO setup and security reviews.

Product feedback. Every exception you handle manually is a question: should the platform be doing this? You'll have direct influence on the roadmap.

Must Have

  • Availability to work 5:00 PM to 2:00 AM IST, fully remote from home, with a quiet professional space, reliable high-speed internet, a good machine, and a quality camera and microphone for customer calls
  • 3+ years in a technical role: QA or quality engineering (exploratory or manual testing, especially on financial, billing, reconcilation or ERP products), solutions or implementation engineering, technical support engineering, data or systems analysis, or ERP implementation
  • Strong SQL. You can write non-trivial queries against transactional data without help
  • Ability to debug across systems: read logs and API responses, interpret JSON, follow data from source system to output, and isolate a cause systematically rather than guessing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English. You will run calls with US Controllers and CFOs and speak with state tax agencies by phone. This is central to the role, not a secondary skill
  • Sharp observation. You notice when something looks wrong before anyone tells you to look, and you ask the question rather than assuming it's fine
  • Genuine willingness to own an unglamorous outcome. Some weeks that means an elegant fix, some weeks a manual reconciliation and a phone call

Nice to Have

Hands-on experience with NetSuite, QuickBooks Online, Zoho, or Stripe. QA or testing experience on an accounting, billing, invoicing, or tax product, including GST filing and e-invoicing platforms. Python or equivalent scripting for data reconciliation. Background in fintech, accounting systems, or B2B SaaS with financial data. Exposure to Avalara, Vertex, or TaxJar. A finance or accounting qualification alongside a technical background.

You'll Do Well Here If

You like problems with a definite right answer and real consequences for getting it wrong. You instinctively ask what happens at the edges: the empty field, the month-end run, the transaction nobody designed for. You get satisfaction from catching something nobody else caught, and you're comfortable being the most technical person on a call with a finance team.

Not a fit if customer contact drains you, if you'd rather build tooling than own accounts, or if you're comfortable signing off on output you don't fully understand.
