About the job
AI Engineering Intern – Document & Voice Systems (Remote, India)
Red6.ai is an applied AI team building real systems for US businesses. Our projects involve documents, voice calls, internal tools, integrations, and agent workflows that have to handle real users and messy input.
We're looking for an intern who wants to learn how document and voice systems are built and tested in production. You don't need experience in both areas, or even deep experience in either. What matters is that you have solid AI/LLM fundamentals, have built at least one practical project, and are curious enough to dig into problems you haven't seen before.
What you'll work on
On document projects, you'll help with PDFs that are scanned, rotated, incomplete, badly formatted, or inconsistent from one sender to another. Depending on the project, you may work on OCR, page and document classification, layout and bounding-box handling, structured extraction, confidence scoring, or human-review queues. You'll learn why a useful system needs to show where a value came from and know when it isn't confident enough to continue on its own.
On voice projects, you'll help build and test flows involving speech-to-text, text-to-speech, interruptions, latency, transcripts, and escalation to a person. You'll test whether calls work under ordinary conditions: background noise, an impatient caller, an unclear answer, or a slow downstream API.
Across both areas, you'll help write evaluations, add logging and traces, build small APIs, and investigate failures alongside the team. A big part of the internship is learning to treat model output as something to measure rather than something to trust by default.
What we're looking for
Solid Python fundamentals and at least one project you built yourself. Coursework, personal projects, hackathons, freelance work, and open-source contributions all count. Show us what you built and be honest about which parts you owned.
Familiarity with OCR libraries, document models, voice APIs, FastAPI, or observability tools is a plus, but none of it is required. We care more about how you approach a problem than what you already know.
The ability to work independently. When you get stuck, we expect you to read the docs, debug, and try a few approaches before asking for help, and to come with what you've tried when you do.
Clear written and spoken communication. You'll give regular progress updates, and you may sit in on selected calls with US clients.
How you'll work
You'll get a defined task and be expected to own it from start to finish with minimal supervision. Senior engineers are available for direction and code review, but they won't walk you through each step. As you show you can deliver, you'll take on larger pieces of client work.
Details
Duration: [3 / 6] months, full-time, remote within India.
Hours: You'll need to be comfortable working some night hours in IST when collaboration with the team or US clients requires it. Other hours are flexible.
Hiring process
One technical interview and one interview with a co-founder.
