Role:

We're seeking a Senior Full-Stack Engineer to lead engineering on the systems behind the Hetalite marketplace: the Ruby on Rails services and algorithms that generate, price, and release assignments to our weekly shoppers (i.e. Hetalites), and the React Native app they use to find assignments and record in-store shelf video. You'll be a senior technical lead on the Hetalite side of the business as we scale the team.

You will work closely with our Head of Marketplace and other members of the Hetal team, especially the technical, product, and Hetalite operations teams. You'll be expected to collaborate closely with other engineers, including through pair programming, code reviews, and mentoring junior developers. This is a full-time opportunity.

You should be comfortable balancing technical execution with business context, working with technical and non-technical co-founders to understand priorities, timelines, and how engineering decisions influence the product roadmap.

Key Responsibilities:

Marketplace & Back-End:

• Build and maintain the Ruby on Rails APIs, background jobs, and data models that power the Hetalite marketplace and mobile app
• Redesign and optimize the assignment generation and release algorithm to account for revenue, margin, and grading throughput, not just completion
• Build the logic behind trial assignments, data capture thresholds, and feedback to Hetalites on assignment quality
• Build and tune release logic, including cadence, staggered releases, hold periods, protected user pools, and claiming rules, in partnership with Hetalite operations
• Ensure data captured on mobile flows cleanly into our computer vision pipeline, Admin tooling, and brand-facing dashboards
• Contribute to web features in React when needed, and fix bugs across the stack

Mobile Product Development:

• Lead development of the Hetalite React Native app end to end on iOS and Android: onboarding, assignment discovery, in-store video capture, upload, and payouts
• Improve the Hetalite experience to reduce churn and raise audit quality, including in-app guidance that helps shoppers capture usable video the first time
• Make video capture and upload reliable in real store conditions: weak connectivity, large files, background uploads, and a wide range of devices
• Instrument the app (analytics, crash reporting) so we can measure funnel drop-off, completion rates, and data quality

Collaboration & Code Quality:

• Communicate timelines, constraints, and technical tradeoffs clearly with non-technical cofounders
• Work with QA on test plans and regression coverage for each release
• Maintain clean, well-documented code and contribute to engineering standards

Requirements:

• 5–8+ years of software engineering experience, with strong backend depth in Ruby on Rails (or a comparable framework and willingness to ramp up on Rails)
• Strong data modeling and algorithmic problem-solving skills, including experience building or optimizing allocation, scheduling, or pricing logic
• Production mobile experience, with React Native preferred
• Experience owning the mobile release process end to end, from build pipelines to store submission and rollout
• Comfortable building systems from scratch, but also modifying existing systems to meet new requirements
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment with shifting priorities
• Strong communication skills, including explaining technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders
• Experience giving thoughtful code reviews and supporting junior developers’ technical growth, with interest in helping build a team
• Bonus: experience with gig, field-workforce, or marketplace apps; Expo; Customer.io; experience with media-heavy mobile features; AWS; and/or computer vision data pipelines
• Bonus: experience writing native modules when needed, and running A/B tests and feature-flagged releases
