Senior Software Full-Stack Enginner (RoR, React)

Hetal was founded by former Felix Gray C-Suite after experiencing the black-box nature of retail firsthand. You’ll be working with a small, dedicated, and fast-moving team that respects one another deeply.

Role:

We’re seeking a Senior Full-Stack Engineer to build across the Hetal platform: the analytics dashboards brands use, Dispatch (the workflow that turns audit findings into corrective action in store), our retailer data infrastructure, and the Admin tooling that connects it all.

This is a multidisciplinary role. You’ll work wherever our priorities are highest in a given quarter, often moving between product areas, so you should be comfortable ramping quickly on unfamiliar parts of the codebase.

You will work closely with Hetal Leadership and other members of the team, especially the technical and product teams. You'll be expected to collaborate closely with other engineers, including through pair programming, code reviews, and mentoring junior developers. This is a full-time opportunity.

You should be comfortable balancing technical execution with business context, working with technical and non-technical co-founders to understand priorities, timelines, and how engineering decisions influence the product roadmap.

Key Responsibilities:

Core Work:

• Own projects end to end, from scoping with product and cofounders through build, QA, and release
• Ship features across the stack: Ruby on Rails backend, React frontend, data pipelines, and occasional mobile work
• Ramp quickly on unfamiliar systems, and modify existing code as confidently as you build new code
• Build and connect APIs between Hetal systems and 3rd-party services
• Improve application performance, maintainability, and reliability as data volume grows (Postgres, Elasticsearch, background jobs, AWS)
• Identify and fix bugs across the stack: frontend, backend, web, and mobile

Collaboration & Code Quality:

• Communicate timelines, constraints, and technical tradeoffs clearly with non-technical cofounders
• Provide thoughtful code reviews and technical mentorship for junior developers
• Write tests and work with QA to keep releases stable
• Maintain clean, well-documented code and contribute to engineering standards

Requirements:

• 5–8+ years of full-stack engineering experience
• Strong proficiency in Ruby on Rails and React
• Track record of working across many parts of a product and picking up new domains quickly
• Comfortable building systems from scratch, but also modifying existing systems to meet new requirements
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment with shifting priorities
• Strong communication skills, including explaining technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders
• Experience giving thoughtful code reviews and supporting junior developers’ technical growth
• Experience designing, building, and maintaining APIs and third-party integrations (e.g. webhooks, OAuth, external data sources)
• Bonus: experience with Elasticsearch, AWS, LLM APIs or MCP, React Native, scrapers, and/or retail/CPG data (POS, syndicated, or retailer portal data)
