About the job
Location: Fully Remote (US Eastern time zone overlap)
Engagement: Contract (Full-time hours, ongoing engagement with long-term scope)
Reports to: CTO
Build software the people using it can point to. Here, one engineer writes the Postgres trigger and the screen the warehouse runs on that same day and gets to watch it work on the floor by the end of the week. Short loop, real impact, no layers in between.
About The Many Company & Manymoons
Most apparel overstock and retail returns in America end up in landfills or sitting idle in warehouses. At The Many Company, we build the circular technology and logistics that let global brands turn overstock and returns into sustainable profit centers. Through our consumer destination, Manymoons, and our live-selling operations, we give quality products a second life.
As a certified B Corp, our mission is to scale circular retail and prove that sustainability and business growth can work hand in hand. We sell across many platforms, including Shopify, Whatnot, TikTok, and eBay, and the engine behind our operations is a product and warehouse management system we built in-house — it powers our products data and core warehouse operations, including receiving, binning, picking, packing, returns, and inventory tracking end to end.
We're a small, distributed, high-trust engineering team. We value clear writing, practical experimentation, and building software that visibly empowers internal teams and outside partners.
About the Role
We're looking for a full-stack engineer to own our core product and warehouse management platform. Over the past year, we migrated our inventory system from Airtable onto a custom Postgres + Retool architecture. You'll lead the next phase: finishing the last stages of the migration, including finalizing the product management system, and growing the platform as our daily operating engine. The core is already in production and this is ownership of a living system, with plenty of new enhancements still ahead.
It's full-stack in the truest sense. You'll design relational schemas, build event-driven inventory ledgers and craft the operator interfaces that sit on top of them. We treat modern low-code builders like Retool and AI coding tools like Claude Code as leverage. They skip the routine boilerplate, so you can spend your attention on the interesting architecture problems. We'd rather you reach for the best tool for the job than do things the hard way for tradition's sake.
Who You'll Work With
A tight-knit team where technical decisions happen quickly, without bureaucratic layers:
Engineering Manager: Reviews backend architecture, pairs on complex schema designs and helps unblock technical challenges.
Product Owner: Defines operational logic, business goals and workflow priorities.
Warehouse Operations Team: You will work with the team at our New Jersey warehouse to understand core warehouse operations and build software that makes a material impact for the team’s daily workflows.Product and Demand Team: You will collaborate with this team to continuously improve our process for creating, enhancing, maintaining and syndicating products across our many sales platforms.
What You'll Own
The core data engine. A ~30-table Postgres schema, migrations, database functions, and an append-only event ledger that keeps inventory counts honest. No stored counts; everything is derived from events, and correctness here is the heart of the job.
The operator interfaces. The Retool apps and custom UI our teams live in all day. You'll design and iterate on them with the people who use them.
The integration surface. The sync flows that keep everything in step, webhook ingest, marketplace integrations, and n8n automation pipelines.Real-world problem solving. When the shelf says 2 and the system says 3, you're the person who figures out which one is lying, and you’ll write the safe, targeted script to fix it.
AI-assisted development. Use Claude Code daily to write tests, draft runbooks, and move features faster. We actively support building with modern AI tooling.Core tech stack
Our stack, plus the modern ecosystem around it. We're looking for someone fluent across most of this. Not every box needs to be ticked but we’re looking for a broad understanding of how to navigate our current full-stack toolkit.Database & Data Layer: PostgreSQL (Supabase, Drizzle ORM, triggers, RPCs, materialized views)
Backend Runtime: TypeScript, Node.js, Deno, Hono
Frontend & Internal Tools: Retool, React, Tailwind CSS
Integrations & Workflows: Shopify Admin API (GraphQL), n8n, Fly.io, Webhooks
Collaboration Tools: Slack, GitHub Issues, Notion, Google Workspace / Meet
Helpful Skills & Experiences
You don't need to tick every box. If you like building tools for real physical operations and enjoy working with data systems, we'd love to see your application.
Full-stack TypeScript. Comfortable building production web apps end to end. Moving fluidly between React on the frontend and Node/Deno services on the backend and designing the APIs between them.
Relational-database instincts. A solid grasp of SQL, table design, transactions, and data integrity. Experience with audit logs or event sourcing is a nice bonus not a prerequisite.
A practical tooling mindset. You happily combine custom code with platforms like Retool (or Appsmith / Superblocks) to get working software into users' hands quickly and you enjoy trying newer tools to see if they make the work better.Operational curiosity. You care how your code lands for real people. You measure success by how much smoother an operator's day gets, not by stars on a repo.
Clear written communication. You naturally include brief write-ups, decision records, or runbook updates alongside your pull requests. Our docs are load-bearing, and good writing is part of the craft here.A solid track record of delivering impactful results to the business. You develop solutions that provide real impact to internal teams. You understand pain points and how teams actually work in practice, so that software enables teams to be more successful. Strong history of strong performance for 3+ years.
How We Work
High trust, high autonomy. We care about outcomes and clear communication, not micromanagement. You own your work.
Experiment with modern tools. We keep our stack current and we're happy for you to propose and try new tools, patterns, and libraries. Curiosity is a feature, not a distraction.
AI-first, humans accountable. We build with Claude Code daily and expect you to. AI is leverage but a human stands behind every line that ships. If AI-assisted development isn't for you, this won't be a fit.
Practical discipline. Light but rigorous: PR templates, migrations tested locally before staging and clear safety checks around database changes. The process exists because this system moves real inventory not for its own sake.
Remote-First with Real Connection: You can work remotely day-to-day but we occasionally get together for team meetups, company gatherings and visits to our New Jersey office and warehouse.
Low-Meeting Culture: We keep syncs on Google Meet brief and purposeful. We don't like unnecessary meetings and respect your focus time.
Logistics & Compensation
- Engagement: Contract engagement, full-time hours (40 hrs/week), remote, ongoing.
- Compensation: $55 - $75/hour (based on experience and skill set)
- Location & Hours: Fully remote with required overlap during US Eastern time zone warehouse hours (approx. 9 AM to 5 PM ET).
- Environment: All code, schemas and documentation are developed directly within company repositories from day one.
What We Offer
Real System Ownership: You own an entire operational platform, not just isolated tickets in a queue. Your architectural decisions ship quickly and stay yours to maintain and evolve.
Modern Stack with Room to Experiment: A clean toolkit with genuine freedom to propose and try new tools, patterns, and libraries. Evaluating better ways to build is treated as part of the job, not a distraction.
AI-First Workflow: Claude Code and modern AI tooling are built directly into our daily routine, with our entire repository instrumented for AI-assisted development.
Work That Matters: A certified B Corp mission to eliminate retail overstock, paired with a tight feedback loop from the code you write to the operators using it on the warehouse floor.
Small, High-Trust Team: Direct access to engineering leadership and product owners, with zero bureaucratic layers and fast decision-making.Genuine Flexibility: Fully remote work focused on outcomes rather than rigid hours (within US Eastern time zone overlap) so you can structure your workday productively.
Long-Term Stability: An ongoing contract engagement with continuous scope, not a short-term, one-and-done gig.
Perks & Stipends (Customizable depending on final package)
- Product Discount: Employee discount across the Manymoons marketplace.
- Learning Budget: Dedicated annual stipend for books, courses and technical conferences.
- Setup Stipend: Home office equipment, hardware and software tooling allowance.
Hiring Process
We want our hiring process to be straightforward, friendly, and respectful of your time:
