About the job

We are seeking a trusted, experienced, and community-centered Violence Interventionist to work directly with youth, young adults, families, and individuals impacted by or at elevated risk of community violence.

The Violence Interventionist will be part of a community-based violence-prevention team focused on building relationships, identifying conflicts, de-escalating situations, preventing retaliation, mediating disputes, and connecting individuals to positive pathways and supportive resources.

This position is centered on relationships and presence. The successful candidate understands that effective violence prevention often begins long before a crisis occurs and continues after an intervention has taken place.

The ideal candidate can communicate authentically with young people and community members, remain calm under pressure, establish trust, and help individuals move from conflict toward safety, healing, opportunity, and stability.

Core Responsibilities
Violence Intervention & Conflict Prevention

The Violence Interventionist will:

Conduct proactive outreach to individuals and communities affected by violence.
Build relationships with individuals who may be difficult to engage through traditional systems.
Identify emerging conflicts and situations that may escalate.
Use trained de-escalation and conflict-resolution techniques.
Mediate interpersonal, neighborhood, and group conflicts when appropriate.
Work to prevent retaliation following shootings, injuries, deaths, disputes, or other traumatic events.
Encourage peaceful alternatives to violence and retaliation.
Maintain consistent contact with individuals requiring ongoing engagement.
Follow organizational safety procedures and escalation protocols.
Coordinate with supervisors and other members of the violence-prevention team regarding significant safety concerns.
Community-Based Relationship Building

The position requires a consistent presence in the communities being served.
