Role Overview

We’re looking for an early-career software engineer who wants to build production software close to customers and business outcomes.

This is first and foremost a hands-on software engineering role. You will spend most of your time writing code, shipping features, and improving our platform. You will also work directly with Storytime’s founders and our partnerships, community, support, sales, and operations teams to identify problems, understand user behavior, and decide what we should build next.

Rather than receiving fully defined tickets, you will help investigate opportunities, propose solutions, build them, release them to real users, and measure whether they worked.

This role is especially suited for someone who is excited by the intersection of full stack development, product, AI feature development, growth, GTM and ios development.

What You’ll Work On

Projects may include:

Improving how brands sign up, create campaigns, and launch their first creator collaborations

Building better creator discovery, matching, participation, and content-approval experiences

Creating internal tools that help our partnerships, community, support, and campaign teams work more efficiently

Developing dashboards and reports that help brands understand campaign performance

Building product experiments that improve activation, conversion, engagement, and retention

Automating repetitive workflows across creator outreach, campaign operations, and customer support

Prototyping practical AI-powered features and turning successful prototypes into reliable products

Improving the performance, reliability, testing, and observability of our applications

Key Responsibilities

Build and ship full-stack features across Storytime’s customer-facing and internal applications

Work across frontend interfaces, backend services, APIs, and relational data

Partner with users and nontechnical teams to turn operational pain points into thoughtful software

Help scope projects, identify tradeoffs, and break larger ideas into releases that can ship quickly

Instrument features and use product data to understand what users are doing and where they encounter friction

Own projects from initial discovery through implementation, testing, deployment, and iteration

Write maintainable, well-tested code and participate in code reviews

Investigate bugs and production issues, then improve the underlying systems rather than applying temporary fixes

Contribute ideas about both the product and the way our engineering team operates

You do not need prior professional experience with every part of our stack. We care more about strong fundamentals, evidence that you can build things, and the ability to learn quickly.

Ideal Candidate

You may be a graduating student, recent graduate, or early-career engineer with up to approximately two years of professional experience.

You would be a strong fit if you:

Have built and deployed a meaningful software project, whether through an internship, startup, freelance engagement, coursework, hackathon, or personal project

Are comfortable building web applications with JavaScript or TypeScript

Understand the fundamentals of React, APIs, databases, and modern web development

Enjoy thinking about why a feature should exist, not just how to implement it

Are curious about users and willing to speak directly with the people using what you build

Can turn an ambiguous problem into a practical first version

Care about product quality while recognizing when speed and iteration are more valuable than perfection

Communicate clearly with both technical and nontechnical teammates

Take ownership and follow work through to completion

Are excited to work closely with a small team in our SoHo office

Have an interest in startups, local businesses, social media, marketplaces, or the creator economy

A computer science or engineering degree is welcome, but it is not required when your projects and experience demonstrate the necessary skills. Previous full-time software engineering employment is also not required.

Nice to Have

Experience with React, Next.js, Node.js, GraphQL, or PostgreSQL

Experience building internal tools, dashboards, or workflow automations

Familiarity with product analytics, funnel analysis, experimentation, or A/B testing

Experience integrating third-party APIs

Experience using AI coding tools or building with language-model APIs

Previous experience at an early-stage startup

A project that has been used by real customers or users

Familiarity with influencer marketing, social platforms, restaurants, or local commerce

During your first several months, you will:

Learn how brands, creators, and Storytime’s internal teams use the platform

Ship your first meaningful production improvement

Take ownership of a feature from problem definition through release

Build something that saves our team time or removes friction for our users

Use feedback and product data to improve something after its initial launch

Become a trusted engineering partner to both technical and go-to-market teammates
