Forward Deployed Engineer Intern

Karta builds AI customer support agents used in real production environments. We’re looking for someone who can take a customer problem, turn it into a working agent, test it thoroughly, and keep improving it based on what happens in production.

This is not a conventional software development internship. Most of your work will involve understanding requirements, configuring and testing agents, analysing results, and improving outcomes rather than writing code.

What you’ll do

• Understand what a customer wants their support agent to achieve
• Build and configure customer support agents using Karta
• Test agents regularly across different scenarios and identify mistakes, edge cases, and failure patterns
• Use audits and analytics to understand what is working and what is not
• Improve agent behaviour based on what you learn
• Help identify when the original customer goal should change to achieve a better outcome
• Present performance and findings clearly
• Over time, participate in customer discussions and translate requirements into working solutions
• Work with simple APIs or JSON when customer data needs to be retrieved

What we’re looking for

We care much more about how you work than what you studied. You should enjoy figuring out why something is not working, testing your own work, learning unfamiliar tools quickly, communicating clearly in English, and taking ownership without waiting for detailed instructions. Patience, attention to detail, and comfort with repeated testing and improvement matter here.

You do not need to be a software engineer. Occasionally, you may need to understand an API, inspect JSON, use a tool like Postman, or make a small technical change. We expect you to learn these as required using documentation and AI tools.

People from all BTech/BE branches and other academic backgrounds are welcome to apply. This role is particularly suited to people who enjoy operating and improving systems more than spending their day writing software. Experience coordinating operations, working in support, analysing data or processes, or managing a project is useful but not mandatory.

Internship structure

• Bangalore, work from office
• Full-time internship for 4 months
• First 2 months are probation
• 6 days a week onsite
• Performance-based increase after probation
• Strong performers will be considered for a full-time role

We are looking for candidates genuinely interested in converting to a long-term full-time position.

Hiring process

Shortlisted candidates will receive a practical assignment: use a no-code or low-code voice-agent platform to build a simple agent from a small customer brief. We will look at how you understood the requirement, what you built, how thoroughly you tested it, what failures you found, how you improved it, how you assessed success, and how clearly you explain your work. You may use ChatGPT and other AI tools.
