About the job
Karwan is building a new financial platform for Pakistan’s exporters.
We give exporters a USD stablecoin wallet, local banking with cards and expense management, and an AI finance, procurement, and compliance team. We plan to start with Pakistan’s $4.6B IT export market before expanding across the country’s $40B+ export economy and eventually into other emerging markets.
We are looking for a Founding Country Manager to build Karwan in Pakistan from the ground up.
NOTE - appliation instructions are at the bottom.
This is not a narrow sales or marketing role. You will be our person on the ground: talking to customers, figuring out what they actually need, building the Karwan community and brand, developing distribution channels, recruiting our first users, and helping shape the product itself.
What you’ll do
Talk to customers constantly. Meet freelancers, software houses, agencies, exporters, finance teams, and other potential customers. Understand how they currently receive and manage international payments, where the real problems are, what would make them switch, and what Karwan needs to build.
Help shape the product. Turn customer conversations into specific product requirements. Work directly with the founders and product team to identify the features, workflows, integrations, and services customers care about most.
Build Karwan’s community. Make Karwan a trusted brand among Pakistan’s exporter community. Organize events, workshops, office hours, meetups, online communities, and educational content.
Help exporters grow. Develop practical programming around finding international customers, winning remote work, pricing in USD, contracts, invoicing, payments, and export processes. The goal is not just to sell Karwan—it is to make Karwan genuinely useful to exporters before they ever become customers.
Build our launch pipeline. Develop a highly qualified waitlist of exporters who have been personally engaged, understood, and are prepared to become early Karwan users once we launch.
Develop distribution. Build relationships with software houses, freelancer platforms, universities, incubators, exporter associations, employers, communities, influencers, and other organizations that can bring Karwan customers.
Recruit pilot customers and partners. Identify the right initial customers, qualify them, understand their workflows and compliance requirements, and prepare them for our pilot launch.
Run experiments. Test different customer segments, messages, channels, events, referral programs, partnerships, and acquisition strategies. Measure what works and kill what does not.
Do whatever needs to be done. Karwan is an early-stage company. There will not always be an existing playbook, team, or process. You will be expected to figure things out and execute.
What we’re looking for
We care substantially more about ability and execution than a particular résumé.
You should be:
- Extremely strong at talking to people and building relationships.
- Naturally curious about customers and willing to spend significant time with them in person.
- Commercial and analytical—you should be able to distinguish genuine customer demand from polite interest.
- A strong operator who can turn an idea into an event, partnership, campaign, customer pipeline, or working process.
- Comfortable starting from zero without a large team, brand, or budget.
- Able to operate independently and take ownership rather than waiting for instructions.
- Strong at written and spoken communication.
- Familiar with Pakistan’s startup, technology, freelancer, software, export, or financial-services ecosystem.
Experience in startups, fintech, technology, marketplaces, business development, growth, sales, community building, or operations is useful, but we are open to unconventional backgrounds.
What success looks like
During the pre-launch licensing period, your job is to make sure Karwan does not launch into an empty market.
By launch, we should have:
- Deep knowledge of our initial customers and their most important problems.
- A clear understanding of which customer segments we should target first.
- A recognizable and trusted brand within those communities.
- Active distribution and referral relationships.
- A large but, more importantly, highly qualified pipeline of prospective customers.
- Pilot customers ready to use Karwan.
- Product decisions grounded in hundreds of real customer conversations.
After launch, you will help turn that foundation into customer acquisition, usage, and revenue.
About Karwan
Karwan was founded by a team with experience building financial products across emerging markets.
Our CEO and CTO previously built Passfolio, a U.S. investing and banking platform focused on international customers. Passfolio reached more than 50,000 funded accounts and approximately $150M in customer assets before being acquired by one of the world’s 20 largest banks.
We are building Karwan with the ambition to become the financial platform for exporters across Pakistan and, eventually, emerging markets globally.
Interview process
Our process is designed to resemble the actual job.
Final candidates will be asked to complete a paid work test involving:
- Developing a customer-discovery interview framework.
- Finding and interviewing potential Karwan customers.
- Summarizing what was learned.
- Developing a practical go-to-market and distribution plan based on those conversations
How to Apply
Email you resume and LinkedIn link to hiring at karwan.io along with up to three of the most creative, successful, unique, hardworking, etc ways you have done growth and if they were successful or not and how so / why.
