General Position Summary

The Software Engineer - Shopify & E-Commerce will develop, support, and enhance our Shopify e-commerce ecosystem, including storefronts, custom applications, integrations, and automation solutions. This role will work across Shopify theme development using Liquid, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/TypeScript, while also supporting a React-based Shopify application hosted in Microsoft Azure. The engineer will help build and maintain backend integrations and automation using C#, Azure Functions, and Shopify APIs. The ideal candidate is comfortable managing day-to-day e-commerce needs while proactively identifying opportunities to replace manual processes with scalable, reusable technical solutions that improve efficiency and support business growth.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain Shopify storefronts using Liquid, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
  • Build custom Liquid templates, sections, components, and storefront functionality.
  • Maintain and enhance custom Shopify applications, including an existing React-based application hosted in Azure.
  • Develop integrations using Shopify APIs, GraphQL, and webhooks.
  • Build backend services and automation using C#, .NET, Azure Functions, and other Azure services.
  • Automate manual processes such as product creation, inventory updates, image management, metafields, and other catalog activities.
  • Support product drops and launches, including storefront content, imagery, product data, and technical troubleshooting.
  • Work with Shopify products, variants, collections, metafields, metaobjects, and other platform capabilities.
  • Develop reusable solutions that improve the scalability and maintainability of our e-commerce platforms.
  • Participate in source control, code reviews, CI/CD, monitoring, and troubleshooting across Shopify and Azure.

Job Required Knowledge And Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 7+ years of software development experience, including 5+ years focused on front-end engineering.
  • 3+ years of hands-on Shopify development experience, including experience with Shopify Plus.
  • Advanced proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3, and modern responsive design.
  • Strong experience with React, Next.js, or a comparable modern front-end framework.
  • Hands-on experience with Shopify Liquid, Admin API, Storefront API, GraphQL, webhooks, metafields, metaobjects, Shopify Functions, and checkout extensibility.
  • Experience integrating Shopify with enterprise platforms such as ERP, OMS, PIM, CRM, fulfillment, payment, or marketing systems.
  • Strong understanding of REST and GraphQL APIs, authentication, web security, integration patterns, and error handling.
  • Experience with Git-based workflows and CI/CD platforms such as GitHub or Azure DevOps.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, collaboration, and stakeholder-management skills.

Required Qualifications

  • Software development experience with web or e-commerce applications.
  • Hands-on experience developing Shopify storefronts using Liquid.
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, and React.
  • Experience developing or supporting custom Shopify applications.
  • Experience working with REST and/or GraphQL APIs.
  • Experience with Git and modern software development practices.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across front-end applications, APIs, and integrations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Shopify Admin GraphQL APIs, webhooks, metafields, and metaobjects.
  • experience with C3, .NET, and Azure Functions.
  • experience with Azure services such as App Service, Virtual Machines, Service Bus, Storage Accounts, and Application Insights.
  • Experience building serverless or event-driven integrations.
  • Experience with CI/CD and automated Shopify deployments.
  • experience automating e-commerce product, inventory, image, or catalog-management processes.

Role Focus

This role is intended to go beyond maintaining Shopify themes. The engineer will help own the technical ecosystems surrounding our Shopify storefronts-- including Liquid development, custom applications, integrations, and Azure-based automation-- with a focus on reducing manual work and building scalable solutions.

Work Environment

  • Hybrid office environment, with support needs that may include distribution center, retail, or remote users.
  • Schedule adjustments are likely to happen, general 8-hour shift beginning between 8 to 11 a.m. and ending between 5 to 8 p.m.; schedule flexibility may be provided based on business needs.
  • Overtime availability will be required for urgent incidents, special projects, or business-critical support needs.
