Job Description
Role Summary

We're looking for a Solution Architect to join a large-scale platform modernization programme. The system being rebuilt spans multiple business domains and hundreds of legacy screens — moving from .NET Framework and WPF to .NET 10, Blazor Server, Clean Architecture and Azure. The programme has multiple delivery phases ahead and we need someone who can own the architecture for the long haul, not just the current sprint.

Key Responsibilities

Own the end-to-end solution architecture across all services and domains — keeping design decisions consistent as the platform grows through each delivery phase
Define service boundaries, bounded contexts and integration patterns; maintain the architecture decision record and ensure it stays current
Close open design decisions including shared library versioning strategy and how legacy and modern stacks coexist safely during the migration
Lead the Blazor Server migration approach for legacy desktop screens — component patterns, BFF conventions, folder structure and layer boundaries
Define schema migration and ORM coexistence strategy where multiple applications share the same database during transition
Produce design artefacts developers can actually work from — system context diagrams, API flows, auth sequences, deployment layouts
Set and enforce coding standards, PR guidelines and security baseline across all services; endpoint authorisation, secrets management and identity patterns
Run architecture clinics, unblock design questions quickly and work closely with BAs and developers day to day
Use Cursor AI as a standard part of your workflow and help the team do the same
Contribute to planning and architecture for upcoming phases — frontend rollout, domain service expansion, third-party integrations

Required Skills & Qualifications

Education Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Engineering or related field
Experience 08+ years in software delivery with 5+ years as an architect on programmes of real scale and complexity
.NET Strong background in .NET Framework 4.x and modern .NET (8 or above). Should have delivered at least one migration programme, not just read about it
Architecture Clean Architecture and DDD in production — service boundaries, bounded contexts, integration patterns, pragmatic decisions without over-engineering
Blazor Server Has built something meaningful in Blazor Server. Understands component lifecycle, state management and how to structure a large frontend
API Gateway Hands-on with Ocelot or YARP — JWT validation, routing, rate limiting, health checks
EF Core EF Core 8 or above; migrations, performance considerations, schema evolution across shared databases
Azure Azure DevOps pipelines, ACR, AKS, Key Vault, Entra ID — able to design the infrastructure and collaborate with DevOps
Security ASP.NET Core security — JWT, OAuth 2.0, RBAC, policy-based authorisation enforced consistently across services
Cursor AI Actually uses it — for reading legacy code, generating solutions, writing docs. Comfortable showing others

Preferred Skills

Experience migrating legacy desktop applications (WPF or WinForms) to Blazor at scale
Background in insurance, financial services or other regulated domain — helpful but not a requirement, you'll pick it up on the job
Familiarity with event-driven and messaging patterns for future integration phases
Experience on long-running programmes where early architecture decisions have downstream consequences across multiple phases
Azure Solutions Architect Expert certification or equivalent
Has integrated Cursor AI or GitHub Copilot into a team workflow beyond personal use
