About the Role
Laser Photonics Corporation is seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our engineering team in Lake Mary, Florida. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer with experience designing machinery, mechanical systems, and components using SolidWorks.
You will be involved in the complete design and development lifecycle of mechanical components and equipment used in advanced laser systems—from concept and 3D modeling through prototyping, manufacturing, installation, testing, and troubleshooting.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, equipment, and machinery for laser systems.
- Create detailed 3D CAD models using SolidWorks, including individual parts, assemblies, and complete machine designs.
- Develop engineering drawings, specifications, and documentation for manufacturing and assembly.
- Design mechanical systems involving automation, robotics, motion systems, fixtures, and other equipment.
- Analyze and test mechanical designs to ensure functionality, durability, reliability, and performance.
- Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, sales, and field teams throughout the product development process.
- Support fabrication and prototyping of mechanical components and assemblies.
- Provide technical guidance during fabrication, assembly, installation, and testing.
- Assist with installation and application of mechanical systems in laser equipment.
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues and develop effective solutions.
- Identify opportunities to improve the performance, reliability, and longevity of existing equipment.
- Participate in hands-on testing, evaluation, and optimization of new and existing designs.
- Apply sound engineering judgment to solve complex mechanical design and manufacturing challenges.
- Manage multiple projects and adapt to changing requirements and priorities.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field.
- Minimum 3 years of mechanical design engineering experience.
- Strong proficiency with SolidWorks and 3D CAD modeling.
- Experience designing machinery, industrial equipment, automation, robotics, or other mechanical systems.
- Ability to create detailed manufacturing and assembly drawings.
- Understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, manufacturing processes, and fabrication methods.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a hands-on engineering and manufacturing environment.
- Strong communication, collaboration, organization, and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently when needed.
Preferred Experience:
- Industrial machinery or capital equipment design.
- Automation and robotics.
- Laser systems or photonics equipment.
- CNC, fabrication, or machining.
- Prototyping and hands-on equipment development.
- Experience working directly with manufacturing and assembly teams.
