Spartan Capital is a rapidly growing Fintech provider of Financing for SMB's. We have and continue to disrupt the Traditional Banking System by proving small and medium size businesses with Revenue Based Financing and Merchant Cash Advance solutions since 2016. The Financial Controller will be a top candidate for the CFO position in the near future.

Job Title: Financial Controller

Job Description:

Spartan Capital is a fast-growing fintech company dedicated to providing innovative financial solutions to small- and medium-sized businesses. Driven by deep credit expertise, Spartan utilizes proprietary technology and disciplined underwriting along with longstanding relationships with customers and industry participants to support SMBs nationwide for the past ten years.

To be considered for this position, it is Required to have 2 of 3 skills bellow (DO NOT APPLY UNLESS YOU):

a)Have over 4 years of experience in accounting and/or Finance for a Merchant Cash Advance or Revenue Based financing or Factoring or Alternative Financing Company or Merchant Processing Company

b)MBA or Master in Finance, Accounting

c) 5 years of experience working as a Controller or Assistant Controller for a Bank or Lender/Funder and producing financials based on loan portfolio revenue recognition.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and mentor the accounting team
  • Establish and enforce internal controls and governance
  • Own GAAP revenue recognition, CECL, and other technical accounting items
  • Formalize the month-end close process, including but not limited to bank reconciliation, cash reconciliation, account analysis, accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, and variance analysis
  • Own the annual financial audit, including preparation of financials, satisfying data and document requests, and composing footnotes
  • Own recurring credit facility collateral audits
  • Prepare financial statements (monthly, quarterly, and yearly) including multi-entity consolidation
  • Maintain accounting manual, policies, and procedures

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Treasury management, including the review and validation of funding packages and approval of wires and cash outlays
  • Support credit facility operations including borrowing base preparation and monitoring, liquidity management, collateral exams, and cash reconciliations.
  • Support payroll processing and reporting
  • Support 13-week cash flow forecasting and reporting
  • Other tasks as needed
  • Month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing
  • Monthly, Quarterly balance sheet and P & L Fluctuation Analysis
  • Monthly expense variance analysis
  • Annual budget preparation
  • Assuring proper cut-offs are achieved
  • Ensure accuracy of financial statements in accordance with GAAP and compliance to internal policies

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • Meticulous attention to detail and unwavering focus on accuracy
  • Ownership mentality – must take pride in their work and always look to take initiative
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Advanced proficiency in NetSuite required
  • Comprehensive knowledge of GAAP revenue recognition for alternative financing providers
  • Experience with CECL
  • Understanding of SPV cash mechanics and restrictions
  • Ability to work across dimensions: independently and as part of a team, with executives as well as entry-level employees, and different departments
  • Effective communicator; can explain complicated concepts in easy-to-understand terms
  • A strong sense of urgency; deadline-oriented
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • High degree of integrity and confidentiality
  • DataRails and LendSaaS experience a plus
  • Exceptional organizational skills
