About the job

What this role is about

Do you want to help build a platform from the ground up and take ownership of a core technical area early on? As a Platform Engineer at nodeline, you will shape the technical foundation for both SaaS and on-prem deployments, working closely with our CTO and a growing engineering team.

Integration is still largely manual today: interfaces, mappings, and migration scripts are repeatedly built from scratch. Our vision is that a significant part of this will become agent-driven in the future – including in regulated environments such as industry, medical, and finance, where security, compliance, governance, and human oversight are critical.

Our solution is designed to run both as SaaS and on-prem, including in environments where data leaving the customer’s infrastructure is not acceptable. We want both deployment models to be as technically consistent as makes sense.

As a Platform Engineer, you make sure our software can be built, delivered, operated, and updated reproducibly – from local development environments all the way to customer installations.

Your responsibilities

  • IaC & Platform: Terraform and Kubernetes in the cloud and on-prem, e.g. with k3s
  • Delivery: reproducible development, test, and customer environments; CI/CD, builds, tests, releases, versioning, and upgrade paths – including environments where you do not have direct access
  • Security: hardening, access control concepts, audit logs, and traceable deployments
  • AI Infrastructure: integrate and evolve inference servers, AI gateways, and sandboxes
  • Customers: support installations and assess infrastructure, security, and audit requirements; occasional on-site visits, but no weekly travel

Technology is a means to an end: if Docker Compose is the better fit than Kubernetes, we want to choose the solution that makes the most sense. You are a core part of the engineering team and contribute to technical decisions together with us. Our CTO is actively involved in development.

Your profile

You are comfortable building and owning a technical area independently rather than waiting for fully specified tickets. What matters most is a strong foundation in IaC, Kubernetes, and CI/CD, combined with the ability to quickly work your way into new topics.

Technical background:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Business Informatics, a comparable technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Strong hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code, ideally Terraform
  • Experience with Kubernetes in cloud environments
  • Experience with cloud-native applications
  • Experience with CI/CD, release processes, and versioned delivery
  • Experience with on-prem or customer installations, or a strong understanding of target environments you do not directly control
  • Security and compliance awareness around hardening, access control, and auditability
  • German and English at B2 level or higher, with confidence in both written and spoken communication.

How you work:

  • Independent, proactive, and structured, including when tasks are still ambiguous
  • Able to quickly and independently learn new technologies and subject areas
  • Focused on the customer problem and the overall product rather than individual tools
  • Pragmatic judgment between necessary quality and overengineering
  • Team-oriented, with open knowledge sharing and documentation that enables handover
  • Able to explain technical topics clearly to customers and compliance stakeholders

Helpful, but not required: Azure or comparable cloud platforms, regulatory experience in industry, medical, or finance, inference infrastructure / AI gateways, and observability.

What you can expect

nodeline was founded in 2025. Until now, we have been a founder-led team, and we are currently expanding significantly through a funded project. We are still in the build-up phase and are working with our first pilot customers. You will help shape both product and platform based on real-world requirements.

  • €68,000–€78,000 gross per year for a full-time role, depending on experience
  • Remote or hybrid, with an office in Karlsruhe
  • 30 days of paid vacation
  • Flexible working hours coordinated with the team
  • Temporary work from other EU countries by agreement
  • Protected time for professional development: ½ day per week is reserved, and where possible a full day
  • Professional AI tools as standard working tools
  • High level of ownership & short decision paths: direct collaboration with the founders and engineering team
  • Grow with the company: develop your area of responsibility based on your strengths and interests

We deliberately avoid siloed roles: everyone owns their area, understands the overall product, and supports the team where needed.
