About the job

What this role is about

Do you want to help build a platform from the ground up and take technical ownership of the product? As a Full-Stack Engineer / Architect at nodeline, you will shape the core application platform – from data models, integration logic, and APIs to the user interface.

Integration is still largely manual today. Our vision is that a significant part of it will become agent-driven in the future – including in regulated environments such as industry, medical, and finance, where security, compliance, governance, and human oversight are critical.

The role has a clear backend focus, roughly 70:30 compared to frontend work. You will work closely with our CTO, Platform Engineer, AI/ML Engineer, and other engineering roles, helping shape architecture and technical standards.

Your responsibilities

Platform & Architecture: design and evolve data models, backend services, integration logic, and interfaces

APIs & Data Models: REST/OpenAPI schema-first, versioning, backward compatibility, schema evolution, and migrations

Asynchronous Processing: use queues, events, idempotency, retries, and dead-letter handling where appropriate

Frontend: independently build product interfaces with React

Security by Design: threat modeling, secure defaults, secrets handling, dependency hygiene, and secure authentication and authorization

Agentic Engineering: coding agents write a significant share of the code in our development process. You guide their use, critically review results, and take responsibility for architecture, quality, and security.

Documentation & Mentoring: review and extend agent-generated documentation, mentor students involved in development, and ensure quality

Specific framework or library experience matters less to us than your technical judgment: does the solution hold up, is it secure, and will it still be understandable in the future?

Your profile

Technical background:

  • Degree in Computer Science, a comparable technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Several years of experience designing and operating distributed backend systems
  • Experience with API design, data modeling, and databases
  • Experience with Java and TypeScript; you should be able to read and assess Python code
  • Experience with React and the ability to build a solid product interface independently
  • Hands-on experience with asynchronous processing and messaging
  • Experience building robust integrations with external or legacy systems
  • Good understanding of security by design
  • German and English at B2 level or higher, with confidence in both written and spoken communication.

How you work:

  • Practical experience with coding agents and a critical eye for both agent-generated and third-party code
  • Independent, structured, and focused on the overall product
  • Documentation that makes knowledge transferable
  • Experience mentoring or technically guiding junior engineers or students

Helpful, but not required: LLM integration with tool calling and structured outputs, testing non-deterministic systems, observability with logging and tracing, multi-tenancy and tenant isolation, auditability, as well as experience in industry, medical, or finance.

What you can expect

nodeline was founded in 2025. Until now, we have been a founder-led team, and we are currently expanding significantly through a funded project. In this Full-Stack role, you will take on broad technical responsibility early and work closely with our CTO, who is actively involved in development. Technical decisions are discussed on their merits, not in justification rounds.

We are at the beginning of our customer development journey and are working with our first pilot customers. The platform is still largely greenfield: few legacy constraints and plenty of room to shape the product and architecture.

  • €68,000–€78,000 gross per year for a full-time role, depending on experience
  • Remote or hybrid, with an office in Karlsruhe
  • 30 days of paid vacation and flexible working hours
  • Temporary work from other EU countries by agreement
  • Time for your development: ½ day per week is reserved for professional learning and deepening your expertise; where workload allows, a full day
  • Short decision paths and direct collaboration with the founders and engineering team
  • Grow with the company: develop your area of responsibility based on your strengths and interests

We deliberately avoid siloed roles: everyone owns their area, understands the overall product, and supports the team where needed. Agents reduce workload, but they do not take over responsibility.

Interested?

No traditional cover letter required. Just tell us briefly what you have worked on most recently and what interests you about this role. A GitHub profile, LinkedIn profile, or CV is enough – apply via the platform or email us at [email protected].

If you recognize yourself in the role but do not meet every single requirement, we still encourage you to apply.

We welcome applications regardless of gender, age, ethnic background, disability, religion or belief, or sexual identity.
