Who We Are:
Virtual Philanthropy is a multisectoral convenor and incubator. We bring leaders from the donor and nonprofit communities to ideate on solutions for major issues.
We have looked at issues facing Canadian schools. From losing crucial funding to worsening mental health, the overall system is in desperate need of a rethink on solutions. Lancer is a new solution started by a coalition of leaders in education and mental health, built to bridge the gap between critical financial resources and educators that desperately need them. This includes working with school boards, teachers, and Indigenous leaders, as well as mental health experts and innovators throughout Canada.
We are looking to add interns to play a critical role in our early-stage success, while providing key experience with mission-based perks. Although it is not mandatory, we are looking for predominantly for students passionate about education equity to join our social enterprise startup. Although this is unpaid, interns will work directly on something that matters. Students will be eligible for college credit.
There are two distinct roles for interns at present.

1. Tech-side intern(s) – this requires someone(s) with:
   a. Expertise with Wordpress
   b. Front and back-end web-building skills
   A preference for those with experience using Elementor, GiveWP, and Gravity Forms
   Responsibilities include:
   • Working on the prototype platform
   • Quality control and testing functionality

2. Client-side intern(s) – The tech side is the pulse of our work, but the people are at the heart of what we do. We have spent years listening and adapting our methods predominantly on the candid feedback and deep relationships with educators, especially in vulnerable communities.

This role requires absolute care and thoughtfulness in all outreach with new and established relationships:

Responsibilities include:
• Research school board partnerships based on our existing partnerships
• Outreach to school leaders throughout Canada
• Follow up on conversations with potential partners

This is an unpaid position. However, we offer:
• University credit, where available depending on institutional policies.
• Hands-on experience in nonprofit/social enterprise startup models.
• Free access to networking events and conferences, including at least one that you determine would be beneficial for you to attend, if it fits within our budget. Any associated costs beyond an entrance fee would be considered your responsibility to cover.
• Genuine impact. The work you do will shape how Canadian schools access funding and teach kids.

Another key aspect of our work is that there is a strong mental health component. We have partnered with some of the leading organisations, donors, and leaders on student mental wellness. There is a third internship role for one person to help build out our existing mental health work. If you are interested in working with this element of our work, the main responsibility would be liaising with our partners to keep track of relevant emerging trends and researching this to see what can be incorporated into our work and could be shared with our partners.

These internships would last 8 weeks and should not require more than 10 hours a week. The internships are completely remote, though in-person meetings may occur if proximity allows.
In the event that we are able to hire at the end of your internship and you are interested, you must be able to fully work in Canada without the need of Lancer as your sponsor.
